phpLD

This is our flagship product and comes in 2 varieties. The $30 version requires alink back on all pages of the front end of the site, while the $80 version allows you to remove this link. phpLD has matured over the years, and while it is easily setup as a basic link directory, it also can do much more such as be setup as a blog, video directory, or local directory with Google Maps.

Installation

While phpLD comes with instructions on installation and is pretty easy for the tech savvy user, many people prefer that we do the installation for them. This insures everything is setup right from the start and not waste time with a small issue. You purchase the installation and we send out an email to you requesting your hosting info and we communicate with you until the installation is complete.

Product Upgrade

Just like the installation, we do provide instructions for upgrading, but often if you are upgrading from an old version it can be time consuming getting everything right. Since we do upgrades every day, we will be able to make sure your site is upgraded to the latest version while keeping your database intact. We will use any available template, but sometimes upgrading a special design is extra and we will communicate with you about that if needed.

This is a windows application that will capture screenshots. It is great as a standalone app, but it will also connect to your phpLD and automatically upload screenshots of websites. You can specify the size of the captures too. By having more images on your directory it can add more artistic pizazz for visitors of your site.

Invalid Links Checker

Invariably over time some of the links in your directory will be changed or compromised in some way. They might contain malware, be parked at the hosting company or add inappropriate content. This tool will connect to your phpLD and help you identify and remove the invalid links rather than having to manually go through your whole directory. In short, it helps you maintain a higher quality level of links.

This product is very similar to the Invalid Links Checker except that it actually spiders websites. You can spider virtually any website. There are numerous settings to help you avoid spider traps and focus on the primary content of a site as well as bandwidth and speed settings. It can be great for going through a large forum or blog and finding all the bad links so you can go in and remove them.

Are you tired of having your Wordpress hacked?

Hardly a month goes by without a major new exploit being found in Wordpress. Supposedly Wordpress is free, but is it really?

It may take a little getting used to using a different product, but phpLD does a whole lot right out of the box including the blogging feature. Because both Wordpress and phpLD use the TinyMCE editor, you will find that blogging is very similar. They also both have a similar media manager for uploading and displaying images.

Templates or plugin conversions are not included, but we do offer additional help if you need it, and of course we are continuously improving our product with new feature requests.

When you get traffic to your directory so many more possibilities open up to you. For example, on sites like buysellads.com, when you get 100K+ pageviews per month, you may find it is easy to attract advertisers that will provide you with hundreds of dollars per month or more.

Getting enough traffic to really do something with it can be quite a challenge, but it is possible!

Assuming you have a good editorial policy and just want to get noticed more by those who are submitting to directories, you may want to look at some of the directory of directories. These sites look for quality directories and provide lists. These places can be a great place to get more traffic, but you may also get some spam submissions, so make sure you have in place some methods to prevent bots or just spammy keywords. Versions 4 and 5 of phpLD have some pretty good tools built in but feel free to ask in our community if you need more help in this area.

As people do start submitting to your directory, make sure you have some of the email autoresponders setup correctly. Often some of your best traffic will be the people that have already used your site. So after they submit a link for example, make sure you are setup to send them an email with more information about your site including some links of interest.

Now having only a directory of links with no compelling content is probably going to be a difficult journey, so you are going to need some compelling content. Often just like Facebook you can reshare images or articles of interest (though consider copyrights). Look at some of the popular content being disseminated across facebook and the web and then add some of this same content to your directory!

For example, create categories dedicated to humor or kittens or bloopers or TV clips. There is so much you can place in a directory, and you can reach a point where you have people combing through your directory for cool stuff, making lots of impressions, and helping propel you to a point where it is easy to sell advertising and where more people are willing to pay to submit to your site. Directory submission continues to be a valuable method for getting links to your site and ranking better with Google. If you are a directory owner, your success in getting paid submissions may depend on your ability to communicate why your directory is a valuable resource, and separate yourself from the low quality links that are commonly sold by SEO firms.

1. You are Human - sounds simple enough, right?! This means you actually tend the directory and make sure you properly review, edit and reject submissions.

2. Difference Between Paid Links and Paid Directory Submissions - Assuming you are performing #1 to the best of your ability, then there is a significant difference and you need to communicate this on your homepage, letting people know why there is a value, and make sure people understand the difference.

3. Avoid Unscrupulous People and Practices - In addition to being human don’t align yourself with the wrong people. Instead being on the leading edge of #1, creating a directory that is both helpful to the user and in turn helpful to the paid submitters.

While Google has been penalizing lots of sites, there is still a huge need for sites that actually care. People are looking for places to get links that won’t get them in trouble. You can be that place! Don't be distracted by other directories with lower standards. Keep a high standard, and you will stand the test of time.
