just wondering how long you spend every day/week checking submissions and either approving or deleting them?

(just to get a feel for it) :)

10 minutes per day approximately on a 2 year old general directory

couldn't tell ya...prob roughly same as David, I try to check on it a few times throughout the day...like to be able to keep ontop of things and have ppls submissions approved within a matter of a few hours, but allow up to 48 hours...just in case :p
actually approving and deleting doesn't take too much time...unless i suspect something funny about the site, usually most of my time is spent editing the submissions..translating them into English and placing them into their proper categories..

do you actually browse around all the sites that are submitted to make sure they are all "above board" ?

do you refuse to add some because you think they are poor quality (either content or design)

Thanks in adv..

Well, in regards to quality of the site only you can decide that mate. It is a tough one as people see different sites as quality or not.

How I do it is if they submit a free listing I am very strict on quality (I state that only the best sites will be accepted free).

The main things I look for is MFA sites, auto generated feeder sites and sites that have just been slashed together. If I can see that effort has been put into the site then I will accept them. As far as editing entries go if they can not be bothered to read my submission guidelines then I can not be bothered to edit their posts (if I can see a genuine mistake has been made no problem but most people dont even bother to RTFS).

Anyway, my 2c

within my admin section, I have thumbnails of the sites on my approve links page....judging by that, the title and discription usually I can get a feel for the site...if i think something's off with it, i will then visit the site.

As byronbra said though, it really is your own judgement call as to what you wish to approve or deny..with my free site i'm kinda leanant with what's allowed...however with my paid site, obviously I have to check the sites out a bit and make sure they meet certain standards...for my own safety lol

Do you guys take the brave step of turning down paid links then,
or would you say that the paid links are generally from people who KNOW they have a good site?

FWIW I have heard of people who spend in excess of 20hours/week adding/appraising links ...for no money. But then there are some of us who spend twice that on forums :) hehe

not more than 15 minutes per day approximately for one directory.

obviously you still need to at least make sure that the paid submission is legit and submitted to correct category....but in my opinion most paid submissionists (lol) took the time to make sure their site was allowed before they went and paid to have it listed....

Paid submissions is a tough one as you will be turning money down, but rather keep your rep in tact with only quality featured links then have a quick $10 (or whatever you charge for features)

10-15 minutes daily depends on the amount of submissions.
