There are a lot of things that I do NOT agree with you, also comparin Aviva and Alive are two different things, and that just shouldnt happen in a directory review. "and a bit dull" dull, you cant be serious, would you rather have a site with 50 different colors, 50 images, things all around that loads in 10+ seconds or a site that loads in .125seconds in FireFox ?

Content visible to registered users only. ???? Come on get real

Content visible to registered users only.Dont forget this isnt a comparison of the two you are Reviewing Aviva Directory.

Content visible to registered users only. Your obviously new to this field, maybe read some of Jeffs articles on Page Strength .

Seems you also dont know about Jeff's business, Aviva is all about SEO friendliness.

Thanks for the comments, SV.

All about SEO Friendliness ??? By default, shouldn't phpld be SEO friendly already? And are Alive & Aviva not directories? Why can't I compare them? How are Alive & Aviva different?

And I meant the PageRank hoarding as a good thing, it is just a little tease. No need to be that defensive.

Not dull does not mean having a lot of colours and pictures. In fact, it doesn't. And I hate too many colours and images, as you can see from my site.

Anyway, these are just little nitpicks on Aviva Directory. You should read the entire review.

u really seems to be new in this lol..

phpLD have option .. u can either have .php pages which are definately not seo friendly or u can have .html pages to make it seo friendly ...

so u didn't know that ... and aviva have seo friendly pages .. not only that Its Page Rank Strength is good.

Dull Design ? wow ... u think u can just make the picture of the girl in the side forget the encoding of the .psd into phpLD and into wordpress ... give me a break ... do u see the .css there ... its way above and beyond u

idk what you are trying to say ... but directory owners can choose to move ur sites to any category they think ur site is appropriate for ...

so don't think that if u try to submit to the home page the owner will let u ... so u must be a fool to say that don't buy a featured ... cuz featured give ur site more exposure..

idk if u see the alexa at aviva ... but the traffic is good too so u get way more visits because ur site is on the top..

next time when u review a site think can u do a better of a job before criticizing others because Jeff spends 1000s upon 1000s promoting his sites and idk what are u doing with ur blog.

let me tell u what i rate ur site with the articles written there 2 / 10

lacking experience in writing, second a very simple beginner looking design which is no where compared to aviva ...

Content visible to registered users only.

Yes, I am.

Content visible to registered users only.

So u are saying that if my pages have the extension .php, it is not SEO Friendly ? And having .html pages will immediately make it SEO Friendly?

Content visible to registered users only.

Perhaps. But then I did say the picture of the girl is nice.
Of course it is beyond me. Just look at my site.

Content visible to registered users only.

Ok, but then you don't get what you paid for.

Content visible to registered users only.

So those people who didn't buy a featured listing are fools?

Content visible to registered users only.

Not really. A lot of those traffic goes into the blog and other articles.

Content visible to registered users only.

I don't have a blog.
And I did mention that they spend a lot of money promoting that site.

Content visible to registered users only.

Truly. But then I didn't spend 1000s upon 1000s on my site.

Do you have some sort of queue as to who's in line and next for a review.

I think that would keep people coming back in anticipation for whats in store and ahead. :)

just a friendly suggestion.

Well, I am trying to get those paid big name directories first.
Next will be Goguides.org and SevenSeek.

Got into a lot of problems with GoGuides because it is just too big, and I missed out a lot of important points.

Content visible to registered users only.

I hope you can wait a little with Seven Seek review. New design should be done and up on site in max 7 days.

By the way, I red your Aviva review 10 days ago thing I like in it is that you express your honest opinion. What you think doesn't have to be a fact, but I appreciate your opinion.
I don't remember all you said, but I remember calling design "dull". Maybe you are right, and you would like it with more color, but web design in general is not all about saying WOW like when you see good looking painting on the wall. It is made for applications that people use and you must think about it's functionality.
I think Aviva's design is easy to understand and use and that was my main intention.
What I say maybe also is not a fact, but I am just giving my opinion as an answer to your opinion.
P.S. I am happy with design comments after all :)

Thanks Balkanboy,

I have done the SevenSeek review. But not to worry,I will always update it if there are changes. If you like, please pm me for the link. Better still, just follow the ALive link , the review url is at the bottom.

And ya, it's my honest review. That's why sometimes I get bashed in forums for expressing such views.

Opinions are always welcome! Thanks BB.

Thanks for the review -- it's good to read opinion on paid directories, it's too easy to take them at face value and assume you're getting what you pay for.

I'd also like to see you review octopedia...

Do you ask directory owners to provide you with some facts?

Do you provide them with copy before making them available to the public?

If not, they might be able to help you in creating a better review.

It is always good to read review of a directory- Good work!

Now I do.
I now show them a preview first to give me a feedback first.
However, not all will bother to reply.

i'm sorry but i'm curious to what you mean by this?
Content visible to registered users only.

is that not what a directory is? To me, I would think, a good directory would be well organized and made to find things easily.
And yes ofcourse where a listing is placed is based solely at the discretion of the site's owner....you are paying the owner to list your site in the best possible place for it and who better then the owner of the site would know their site well enough to place your link in the best visible category (or sub category for that mater)?

Example: I get submissions all the time to my Free Web Hosting category when infact the site has nothing to do with web hosting at all...now just because one paid to have their site listed there, it would be bad on my behalf to allow it to remain there...what kind of webmaster would I then be and what would be the point of the directory with all of it's nice and neatly displayed categories? Might as well just make an in general link farm....

Content visible to registered users only.

Yes, you are correct. But I am not talking about that. I am talking about the criteria on getting listed in a main category. For example, in the directory MAIN category, there are subcategories like free, general, niche..... I am talking about the criteria in getting into the directory category instead of in the subcategory like free or general.

Solidghost, just to let you know that www.SevenSeek.com has new looks now, if you want to update your review.
If you call this one dull too, I am going to kill you :)

About previous discussion about Aviva here is good article of what I wanted to explain to you: http://bokardo.com/archives/five-principles-to-design-by/

It's dull. hahaha, just joking.
I will do it soon. Looks like for the blog, it's design is still based on the old one? Will there be a change as well?

Thanks BB.
