I have a problem with my phplinkdirectory, I´ve imported 28000+ categories from DMOZ, and now I can't add a category from the admin area because it takes too much time to read all the categories and shows in the drop down menu. Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

I know for certain that people have changed their submit page to only display the category for which they are submitting, and not even use the drop down. Hopefully someone will post this code. For example, I know Casey knows how to do this, though I know he is out of town right now. Hopefully, we can find an answer for you soon.

Just to move this along, I will note that clearly the answer lies in submit.tpl in this section of code:
Content visible to registered users only.

The two priorities are to "print" the CATEGORY_ID and then probably to use a hidden form field to submit the value. I know the answer would be easy to a Smarty pro. This might even be a great opportunity to post this in one of the Smarty discussion forum on the net, and see if they will help us.

Change
Content visible to registered users only.
to something like this:
Content visible to registered users only.
That should work, but I have not tested it.

Ok, thanks...that is one step closer. What that does is display the actual number of the category ID. Now all we need to do is show the name.

that works... thank you
is there any way to change it to showing the category title or url instead of id?

Not work for me...

Content visible to registered users only.

For me it showed the category id, but not the name.
I think we will still get a solution, so please be patient, and bump this thread in 48 hours if you still don't get an answer.
Thanks,
David

Hey all, yeah I'm out of town and I have the mod so when I get home I'll post it.

Basically what it does is takes the CatID, recurses through the DB to form the Title URL so it looks nice etc...

What I am planning on doing is have it available for an admin, so once they log in they can surf their directory able to add directly in a Cat so that no dropdowns are needed as well as having Edit / Remove / Delete buttons next to each Link / Cat.

I am away though and should be home in a couple weeks.

If anyone is willing to pay, then I'd go ahead and try to do it from here.

Let me know,

Kind Regards and Best Wishes

These little jobs are a good way of funding the time spent on this project.

I'm sure one of the project developers with a little free time will do this job for you if you ask nicely and make a donation
