Free sitemap subscription service, AutoMapIt, (http://www.automapit.com/sitemap102.html) will WORK with the php link directory! I've got it running on the Kickass WebGeek Directory and it's functioning flawlessly. No more funky dupe links from the hit/alpha sort functions, no more recursive loops and fake links, no more bandwidth eating google spider issues from other sitemap services, no more problems whatsoever. . .

Free ad supported service spiders once a month and auto-uploads your sitemap in four formats- Google, Yahoo, OPML and HTML. If you're an SEO fanatic who wants to go for the gusto there are affordable subscriptions to spider your site weekly or even daily.

Enjoy!

Yes, works great! I am one happy camper with this service, and thanks to AutoMapIt for coming up with it!

are there any free scripts/services that will do this instead?

Content visible to registered users only.

From the description, the service is free for monthly spidering. Do you need a more frequent service?

If you've got a quality niche directory that has 500 categories, then what's the problem with paying ten bucks a month for sitemaps that work? I've already tried out most of the other services and software and they don't do well with phpld. They just don't, not without removing javascript from the template, and setting up a scad of filters, and even then there are issues.

And have you looked at those (google format only) sitemap they generate? I tried those early on and they were full of dupe listings, which could hurt you with google.
