Hey Guys,

I downloaded the free version (2.1) because I wasn't positive about how things would work out. I intend to purchase the full version with support if this test run (2-3 weeks) goes well.

I'm just having trouble getting it installed. I use Dreamweaver to FTP files currently. I've extracted the files, uploaded them all to the server - doubled checked that. I've triple checked that the permissions are all set to 777. When I load the domain, however, and it does properly redirect to the installation script, I'm getting the following error message:

Fatal error: main() [/install/function.require]: Failed opening required 'libs/smarty/Smarty.class.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php:/homepages/39/d181150541/htdocs/tek-seo-directory.com/') in /homepages/39/d181150541/htdocs/tek-seo-directory.com/libs/intsmarty/intsmarty.class.php on line 3

I'm operating on a 1and1 shared server - I'm wondering if this has something to do with it. I used Dreamweaver's "set permissions. . ." option to set the files to 777.

If anybody can give me any help setting this up properly I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm very willing to pay out for the full-version, I've wanted to set up a directory for some time and PHP Link Directory has always been #1 on my list since I started link building for clients and saw it basically everywhere. I just have to be frugal right now (I'm a self-employed freelancer), and I didn't want to fork out the cash until I'm confident I can handle the platform.

Thanks in advance!

Ok sorry for the late reply.

Make sure all files are uploaded.

1&1 have certain permission requirements so set your php files to no higher than 755

Why did you use dreamweaver to upload the files?

No problem - happy to get a reply at all.

I have uploaded the entire contents of the archive a few times to make sure.

I used Dreamweaver because it's how I manage all of my websites - I'm just very comfortable with the software after years of use. If you think using another FTP program to upload the files will work better let me know which one - I'm willing to try something new.

I'll try setting the permissions to 755.

Thanks for the reply,
-Mike

best thing to do is to move as far away from 1n1 as humanly possible

I have PHPLD running fine on 1and1 shared hosting developer account.

I used FireFTP (Firefox Addon) to upload.

There are a few tweaks that need to be made for bugs that you can find on the forum.

I feel like an idiot - somehow I didn't properly extract the files. When I went to double-check they weren't all in my local directory which means they also never ended up on the server.

About the run the installation now - thanks for your help, guys.

If all goes well I'll be purchasing the full version in a week or two.

I tell you.. you would be wasting your time setting up one and then upgrading in a week or two, I would just go with the upgrade and start from there.. I run both and 3.1 is a lot better.
