Hi again (I hope the silence is not because you started "hating" me post :P )

so as you already know by now, for some time I'm messing with the categories. I've got about 17 pages of them and I wanted to edit the name of one I added like 1-2 weeks ago. Problem is, I sorted after date added and all categories, except one symbolic category are dated yesterday and today and that single 1 symbolic category is dated correctly on 12 of March. So something went wrong somewhere. Or, the date added is not taked from where it should be or it is being overwritten which is wrong, since the meaning changes (it's not longer teh time stamp when added but when last modified or whatever operation is changing it) (I haven't made any checks in the code since I got tired of approving links (which piled up during the past almost 2 weeks I've been busy with the categories)) and I'm now moving to something else to silver up :D )

also ... it would be nice to have an option to find a specific category for editing :)
it would be even nicer if the whole thing would act much like a forum where you can mass-edit/move/delete and can apply changes directly from within the category without the need to go to the admin panel and loose your nerves until you find what you wanted. just a thought for version 4 (in case v3 doesn't already behave like this :D )

Hello,

In v3 you can take actions on multiple categories or links at a time. Select them and click an action to perform ;) Also there is a search feature in admin panel for both categs and links.

About your data question, are you sure the date is set correctly on your server and/or it was not modified?

I'm on v2.1 sorry, forgot to mention that.

server time was changed like a week back. but time only, not date (was ahead half an hour or so). it's a little faster for some reason and gains about 30 min in 1-2 weeks. but that shouldn't affect this ... right?

30 min should not affect the date
Try to add another categ, see what date it has.

even more weird:
added a category, appeared on second page, with 03/24/07 12:48:19, server time is Sat Mar 24 14:48:34 EET 2007, local (my pc) time is 14:31
first category on first page has 03/24/07 14:46:19 (I think I added this one yesterday) check that date and the server date ... now that is weird. (refreshing the category list doesn't seem to change the date though, so I'm thinking it was somehow added "in the future")
added a second category, resulted in 03/24/07 12:49:56 (both on top). 3rd added category in some random category resulted in 03/24/07 12:50:52. adding symblic category resulted in 03/24/07 12:51:34.
so this looks good. (the addition). I'll do some more testing...

edit reason: I posted the server and my machine time a few minutes later after writing the first addition time, but forgot to update the time so that the minutes would be ok.

BINGO: submitting a link will modify the date added column :) there. I'll leave the fixing to you :P

Great, we will look at this and also put it in the next release of v2 (coming soon)

Just to be clear your saying submiting a link modifies the categories date added?

Content visible to registered users only.

that's exactly what I'm saying (version 2.1.0 to be precise (from version.php))

er: to be more precise, modifies the date added column of the category in which the link was submited to the time/date of the submission.

k is this happeing on the admin approval or actual submit?

Just want to pinpoint where I am going to be looking.

just after submit. didn't test to see if it happens when approving also. 1

I just re-did the test just in case ... it seems it's not consistent. I cannot reproduce it anymore. maybe it's something else and the otehr thing was just a conincidence...
I'll get back when I get something consitent and reproducible

ok I am doing a minor update to the script but will anticipate testing and releasing another one next week then. I have to install it and try to replicate it also. Thanx for the report and help as it is greatly appreciated since this a a free release.

well ... there is something more to this than I initially thought. I just sorted by date added ... I've got almost all categories with changing date added values. about 6 of them changed since I posted the previous post... is there something like a timer or soemthing doing some "work" in the background?

Does the date change according to someone selecting it on the web. Possibly it is done as last access instead of creation date.

(just throwing out ideas)

just tested. seems like that might be the thing. I accessed 3 random categories and they showed up as last added in the order I accessed them. so you might have a point :)

I don't know and have not seen anyone else complaining of this problem with changing dates ..........

Maybe boby can weigh in .. are you using a browser with the admin open and the page autorefreshing (stretching here I know but if the dates are changeing and your not submiting and noone else is then something terribly wrong is happening ...

ciuly

yes I do... at 5 minutes (too keep me logged in for the day) but this happens no matter on which admin panel I'm on ... and it shouldn't, in any case, change the added date...

I had the suspicion since I first installed it.

Maybe this was done at an early stage of development to reorder subcats so that the most popular would tend to stay at the top.

Main Cat
Subcat1 (most recently accessed)
Subcat2 (next recent access)
Subcat3 (etc.)

This happens to me as well on 2.0, never really mattered to me, so....
