I wanted to let everyone know that we are working on 3.0 pretty strong now, and I wanted to give a progress report:
Completed:
Language Files
Improved Captcha
Improved Mod Rewrite
In the Works:
Search Admin
Banning IPs
Pages for each link
Sitemap Feature
Items that may be delayed so we can release faster:
Improved Reciprocal Link Checker
Page cacheing for higher performance on large directories
Maintenance section in admin
Note: I expect we will have a few more items that are not listed, and these items that may be "delayed" may also NOT be delayed, but just letting you know.
One item that may be added is a database backup feature, so you can do a mySQL dump. If this is quick and easy, I'll add it.
Thanks for your support.
Thanks for the update David. What about adding an express submission feature, were people can pay to have their sites approved faster. Do you think this could be done?
Thanks!
David

Thanks for reminding me about this one...
someone actually made a donation for a similar strategy, so likely there will be something like this.

Hi thanks for such a great directory, the more I play around with it the more pleasantly suprised I am . So thanks (thumbs up)
If you haven’t already thought of these user account features in the next release then please perhaps you could. Just a few ideas,
User accounts/submitting first link
Create user account page: password (+confirm) email (+confirm)
Users username/password details are sent after signing up with email confirm link. (email confirm link optional in admin)
Even though link may not yet be approved user will still receive an account.
User account view suggestions:
Current listngs.......Status.............................. .......Expdate.................Actions
{url not currently in service} details/Renew
'Start date' also to be seen above :)
Exp date: none/or if paid then actual date of expiration.
Start/Exp date Automatically placed by system on approval
Start/Exp date both automatically refreshed on renewal.
Full details: Type of listing, Start/End, edit listing (Not URL), de-list etc
Other Links:
Add new listing
My Account (password or email change to have email confirmation update link also)
Admin
Admin view can access + edit all aspects of user accounts.
Option to set: Users account activated by email confirm link - or not.
You may have considered these alreadly but they are suggestions i would sure appreciate.
Of course I will donate to this. Thanks

suggestions:
1. have a easy hack system... hacks come in .pak files and in the acp you have a hack module install
2. Pre-Install most of the hacks for the other versions to save everyone time
3. Another progress report
4. make it so that when someone submits a featured link, then exits the paypal screen without paying. the link doesn't still show up in the approve link area.
5. in the approve link area have a "type" table that shows what type of link it is

Ok, thanks for the suggestions.
My first goal is to make sure I have something that will start selling, because once it starts selling, I will be able to reinvest into even more improvements. I would love to use some sort of a "hook" system like vBulletin.

Now that would be something.
Just want to know before I go ask for help; will 3.0 have a 'search results to show category'? and if so will it expand on the mod here {url not currently in service} and show full category tree structure?
e.g. Jobsearch>By Sector>Retail
The current mod in the link only shows the actual category and no tree e.g. Retail
Thanks

Neticus,
Yes, that was something I was going to check into so I would say David wouldn't mind it either.

I am planning to implement a script that runs and "builds" the category tree. Under the current structure, it would be a bit server intensive to try to output the full tree for multiple links, but we will setup a script that can be run that finds the parents and children for a given category id.

Ajax would be great if it could be intergrated. Maybe the ability to go through the approve links page checking boxes to mass delete, change category, approve, ect.

Hey, it's not always easy to keep up with everybody. :)
If you need some help (even if you already asked), send me a pm, and maybe I can get someone to take a look for you (try to include ftp and admin login info).
THanks,
David

I am just getting ready to launch my webiste and would love to have my programmer install version 3 instead of 2, and I don't mind paying $25 for all your hard work. How much longer until version 3 is available? I'd really prefer to have the new version installed.
Thanks,
Jason

Sure, I'll setup a discount for multiple purchases.
I can at least say we are past 50% done, so that is something. :)

Hi and thanks for the great script
David, can you setup an optional price field for script or product submitions?
Something like admin can turn it off or on.
Thanks again
