I want to start having a site of the month. I'm not sure how we are going to run the contest, but I want to ask for your suggestions, and also nominations. Here are a few reasons/criteria I have thought of so far:
1) Nice Design
2) Innovative Programming
3) Quality Content
* Would be a plus if they link back to this site
Maybe we can make a nice little button for them display their award, and also they will get a write up in the news section here, which would mean they will get a PR links as well.
I look forward to getting your feedback.
Thanks! :D

Hi David ;-)
Here is my 2 cents worth
In regards to this contest... A lot of sites are simply directories, other than links - there really is no content ;-)
How would content apply to those sites?
I also think that there should be a link back to this site or they cannot be nominated.
It's a fantastic script ;-) the least we can do is offer a link back ;-)
In saying all that... How would you nominate a site?
(pick mine.. pick mine - te he heee)
Just my 2 cents for now

Nice :)
You should make a poll and everybody should give 1 vote but not on their own dir.
Exciting.

I think it should be a rule that you cannot nominate your own site. After we have a few nominations, maybe we can use the poll function here on phpbb, or maybe the moderators can work together behind the scenes.
With regard to content, I am talking about the quality of the listings being accepted into your directory. For example, there are some that don't really seek out good links, they just wit for submissions to come to them.

I definitely feel that the relevance of links should be considered for niche directories for instance. Of course that's not "relevant" if it's a directory with a wider appeal - for those, it might be a case of looking at the quality of links: not that I have much idea about how to decide on that myself, but I'm sure there are others who do.
Gonna have to whip up a short list of qualifications, David.... December's not all that far away!

Sounds like an awesome idea :D
I've seen some very nice directories 8) some people have really invested a lot of time to make a solid site.
Let us know, when ready, how to nominate a site. I'll vote

Let's go ahead and get a few nominations.
#1 rule is your can't nominate yourself.
Possibly we won't have a perfect system the first month, but hopefully we will refine it over time.
Any nominations?
I would like to nominate Jim Westergren and his directory: http://www.addurl-free.com/
:)

I nominate yktan's Complete Gaming Directory
(Might need several categories, several "winners".... one for design, one for breadth, one for niche - this one program provides so many possibilities, and so many people here are already expanding on those possibilities....)

David,
I think Directory of the Month is a great idea. I have seen some directories out there that are just plain and, well, truth is that they look pitiful.
But I see one problem, at least for me. With only 4 nominations so far it would be tough for me to pick one I liked best. The 4 nominated directories are very sharp looking. Directory owners have done a great job.
Problem choosing a 'best' won't stop me though. I will vote once the polls open.

Any prizes involved? Pehaps a v3 for free? Just a thought.

Keep in mind everyone may not agree with the decision for December, but then we'll have January, etc.
I think all the directories nominated so far are pretty good. :)
