Yes, here are some of my suggestions:
1) Don't wait for links to be submitted to you. Add quality links yourself.
2) Don't accept an excessive number of paid links where the ratio of paid links is a lot greater than free links.
3) Add some other quality info to your site besides just links.

So far, I'm not aware of too many people that use this script losing pagerank, but it is important to think about quality, not only making money and link exchanges.

I included phpld in my website between the Septemer 22nd and Final Jagger update. It is nestled with other content. My whole site had PR0 now 3 accross the board.

I did read something on M Cutss blog that the use of the terms featured sponsored and regular in terms of links would be a target in future updates. Can anyone shed any light on this?

I did find out that some of the other sites were "pandering" in pagerank.
In other words, they were buying high pagerank links to increase the pagerank of their directory, and then turning around and selling links. I haven't heard about Matt saying this, but I think it would be a sham for google to try to ban people for having advertisers, and at the same time promote use of their own advertising product (but they could do it).

If you add quality links yourself, do you also add the nofollow attributes?

The nofollow attribute is under hot and heavy argument right now.. It really depends on who you listen to whether it's a good thing or not..

According to Matt paid links "should" have nofollow added to them since they are paying for traffic and not page rank you should not be selling links without the nofollow..

Others are less convinced that Google can truly enforce the paid links thing..

Best as I can tell, if Google thinks that the links to your site are paid for they do not count as in bound links.. Plus, if you are selling mass quantities of links without the nofollow attribute you may see your links in all directions not counted..

When it comes down to it, it's just Google trying to control everyone much like another major tech company.. And yes, I'm fed up with them :)
