I just upgraded my directory to 2.1.2 from 2 and now I'm being slammed with spam bot submissions? Can anyone help alleviate this or suggest a solution?

Also, I obviously didn't read the PHPLD 2.1 Installation instructions post, so I overwrote my config.php file. I had backed up the database and my links are ok, however now in the admin it says that this file is still writable. I have changed the permissions to 444, but it still shows that it is writable.

I've had this directory for 15mo. now with varied attention, TLC, and a few different designs. I've decided with this new upgrade to leave it with the default template while I create a new design template. Is there any documentation for designing a template similar to what WordPress has?

Thanks for the input and help.

Thanks Dawzz for the reply, but I'm not sure I understand
Content visible to registered users only.

I did notice after I did the upgrade that the captcha settings were different, (e.g. no image based, more type face based).

Are you indicating that the captcha might be what is allowing spam to come through?

Thanks,

I think someone figured it out. what happens is someone beats the standard setup and then creates a bot or whatever to submit. Once you change it up some poof the bot no longer works.

is why 3.x is much better ;)

Yes, I do plan to upgrade to 3.x. Can you lead me to where I can research looking into editing the captcha?
