Hello...does PHP Link Directory support the ability to create custom search fields for a given category? For instance, I'd like to create a directory that stores business name, city, state, and zip...

...but for a specific category...say BUSINESS LISTINGS.

Question:

1. Is the above available out of the box?
2. If not, do I have to install a mod of some sort?
3. If #1 above is possible, say I have Internet links that aren't business listings type...just regular Internet links. Can I customize their fields for a specific category?
4. If yes to #1, which PHPLD version. 2.x or 3.x?

Thanks

Lester

Admin Edit: With the introduction of phpLD 4.1 (http://www.phplinkdirectory.com) the ability to add field got even easier. In addition it comes with over 20 fields that you can turn on or off including deep links, multiple categories, city, state, zip, fax, email, upload image, upload file, and lots more.

It can be done to both, by hacking the core code a bit. In v3 it's more easy, you can add DB fields through the admin panel and then also add them to the search function, just 3-4 lines to add for the search, depending on how many fields you'll need.

We'll need to know what phpLD version you are using to help further.

Bobby thank you greatly for your response. I have version 3...just purchased it. I heard it's easy and in the control panel but I just can't find it. Perhaps a screen shot? Thanks again.

Since phpLD v3.1.0 and above, you can create custom DB fields using the admin panel:
System >> Database >> Add fields to database tables

Then you may also add validation tags for the submit page using a little help:

Thank you Bobby. I'd like to modify my DB today but apparently the URL in your response is not permitted to be seen by me. Is there something particularly wrong with my account OR do I have to have special access? Otherwise, if you don't mind, can you PM me the details within the thread of the URL you posted? Thanks again.
