View Full Version : Multiple sites with 1 database ?

Hi guys
I'm glad someone posted a link to your site - I had a bad experience with a commercial link script, and PHPLD seems to be way further advanced than the commercial script was !
I was wondering if its possible to run multiple sites from one database ? The only feature I liked on the commercial script I purchased was the table prefix could be configured on each site, so you could for example run 10 sites all feeding off the main database, but with their own categories and links unique to each site.
Hope that makes sense - appreciate your help :-)
Cheers
Carl

Of course.

You can have many tables in one database.

To setup a second one with a different table prefix open up include/config.php

and change the PLD_ in the following line

If you need further assistance, feel free to PM me.

Hi Ilushkin

Thanks for the quick reply, but if I read that right you're suggesting I am a 'spammer' because I want to run multiple directories ? Does that mean Google and Yahoo are spammers ? :-)

I assume you don't understand my question. I am only able to run a limited number of mySQL databases on my host account - I only have one or 2 slots left. I have 6 or 7 sites of different topics that each need a reciprocal link directory. They need different categories etc as they are not all in the exact same niche. They are all honest, upstanding sites with unique content - they just happen to need help managing links, and so a script like phpLD will be helpful.

Hence my question. So if you are accusing me of being a spammer and dishonest (when I can assure you I am neither of these things) based on a reasonable question about a valid business need, you might be better placed to clarify the question before making such comments.

Thanks
Carl

I have a lot of clients who are limited to 3 actual databases, but who use one for MANY things.

To accuse someone of spam who's in that situation sucks, and also childish.

Be careful, as you could be getting into slander :)

Ilushkin

I'm not going to sour these forums, which obviously exist to help people, by getting into a slanging match with someone who appears to be somewhat detached from reality.

However, I have some pride in my work and my reputation, and while you know zero about me, I respond to your disjointed ramble on this thread as follows ...

You need to define the meaning of 'sarcastic' as to me it implies biting yet relevant wit of some sort. You were not being 'sarcastic', you were being 'irrelevant'. You misinterpreted a sensible and relevant question and posted some indistinguishable babble. Then you followed it up with further unrelated unfathomable rubbish.

To try to suggest I am involved in spam based on a question I asked which has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with spam, is inflammatory and annoying. I've taken one unwarranted personal attack from you and so far offered no retribution.

I'll make it very clear as you seem to operate in short blunt sentences.

BE ... VERY ... CAREFUL ... WHO ... YOU ... ATTACK ...

I can't force you to make your posts helpful, but at least keep them factual.

Now go and do something useful - we'll all be better off for it.

I said I didnt mean no offense. I was not myself that night. ///Casey was right. However, you need to be nice too. Specially its helpfull when you just joined a new board. You know, it makes good impression :) Lets just stop this thread, its getting out of topic. :) Unless, that you wanna dig out some more short , blunt sentences out of me. That ones you wont like.

I was trying to make a 'good impression' on a new board by asking a newbie question, politely.

Casey replied, kindly, to my sensible question, politely. I greatly appreciate his help, as I have pointed out, publicly and privately.

If you have anything else to say to me, do it by PM. When I have nothing better to do, I can try to understand whatever your issue is, but I don't think other members of this community need to be further bothered by any exchange between the 2 of us.
