I know there is a lot of debate about the "nofollow" attribute at the moment, but why when you approve a reciprocal link submission doe's the approved site's url get automatically tagged with the nofollow attribute.

The nofollow check box seems to have no effect while "Require Reciprocal Link" check box is ticked.

Is this a fault in my directory?
As it seems, I am penalising the sites that have bothered to place a reciprocal submission.

My understanding is that an anchor tag with the"nofollow" attribute will not count as a backlink to destination site and no vote for page rank will be carried over either.

Anyone????
Seems to be quite a few questions about the nofollow but not many answers?

Sorry for the newbie question, but just what is nofollow?

A nofollow is a "no no" for directories. The point of a directory is to build a backlink and another entry point (from search engines) for a website. If I go to a website that incorporates a nofollow tag then I just do not submit my link. While it helps the directory it does nothing for me. Ultimately as the end user all I care about is the link, the quality of the link, and the pr gains I can get from the link. With a nofollow attribute I get NOTHING!

Is there a way to find out if a site have nofollow on my site ?

Yep, just view the page source by going to View > Page Source on the top navigation on your browser.

Scroll down and view to the right and if you're good at html, you can view where it will say rel="nofollow" or if it's not there then it has been disabled.

You'll need to view a page that has websites in your directory in order to view this.

I have nofollow on my website, for when people make false submissions to make it appear as if they made a paid inclusion.

*cough* the ultimate karting directory *cough*
*cough* dd karting *cough*
Content visible to registered users only.

Content visible to registered users only.

and just for the record people, if you have pr, people won't care about nofollow attribute being used int the directory, just as long as it's being used properly.

I guarantee if I made a submission into your paid directory without payment it was only because you advertised on Digital point offering a limited time inclusion for dp members.

Featured listings were the only links that required payment when I announced. When you submitted, features and regulars(which shows up there) were required.

Why select 'payment' if not needed. I just saw you as trying to exploit a bug in the script(3.01). no biggie as I do look over each and every submit and website and process accordingly.

Actually I didn't know if any bug in 3.01. I came over from the SiteSift world and this is my very first venture into phpLD. If I misunderstood your post then I do apologize for the erroneous submission but I do try and take my submissions into directories very seriously because my backlinks are my lifeline to obtaining good pr with Google. Well one of the lifelines :)

It's all good. these things can happen. there is no harm done, and i'm not the type of person who holds e-grudges (that's retarded ;) ) like i've seen over on DP. funny stuff actually.

HI

In phpld 3.05 is there anyway to turn off - Links with nofollow attribute - for Free listings, if so how do you turn this off and if you can't then why not..

I have had people say they won't submit a free listing with this turned on,

Thanks

For all versions of PLD, the NoFollow Attribute is located below the Default Link Sorting.
