This mod will allow you to enter a list of words to be banned from
submissions into a text file.
Just download and read the Readme file. Easy to install and use.

If any problems please post in this thread so I will be notified.

nice to get the feedback I was wondering how it was working.

Looks like it is going to help out a lot. Does it look at the URL and the description submitted, or just the description?

My initial test didn't seem to pick up the banned words used in the URL. But even if it didn't - looks like it will still work great.

Good job.

title url and description

description is a partial match meaning anywhere.

The url and title is an absolute match meaning it has to be exact.

Reason for absolute match in url more so than title is if you ban say the word

t*t and the url is titusthemovie then it would be blocked.

Myself I think 99% of the spam will be http: or url= or [url type in the description.

Ah - I get it now. So to block a URL, you'd have to type in the full URL.

One other thing I noticed is that it would be hard to ban
c i a l i s (without the spaces), because it would also ban any description containing "specialist" too.

Thx

However usually and I mean usually you will get the odd one thru.

the spammers are trying to push thru link farms to get as much as possible.

If you are having specific problems pm me and we can adjust it to work for that also :)

If I upload those files it results in "call to undefined function" errors. Why is this? Is it necessary to go through the whole installation process again?

James

Make sure that the functions.php and the tpl files overwrote.

jamesblue

The functions.php overwrote OK, I am sure of that.
However, there is only 1 TPL file as far as I can see, which is "banned word". Surely that does not overwrite anything?

I need to see the error.

Thanks for your help.

If I go to the site admin the error message is:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: tweak_time_limit() in /home/content/s/i/t/sitemapp/html/admin/init.php on line 41

If I go to the site itself the error message is:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: request_status() in /home/content/s/i/t/sitemapp/html/index.php on line 6

Those are not default 2.1.2 functions .... what version is your directory?

jamesblue

Sorry I am obviously confused.

I am using version 3.0.6.

Is there a different mod for this version that allows words to be banned?

shadav

this is only for 2.x versions...i believe 3.x versions have this already...i know 3.2 does...

James
08-17-2007, 02:39 PM
no it will work on 3.06

read the readme where it says what to look for for manual file edits :)

GimmeMyDomains

Yeah - word filter is built in on 3.2, and it works great - really takes out a lot of the spammy submissions. Definitely worth the upgrade.

By the same token - this mod worked great on my 2.1.2 directory- good job!

James

Yeah I always encourage upgrading to 3.x but in some rare cases the directory owner has had it in use for a while and has modded it so much that to pay someone to redo it can be very costly. In that case this mod is a solution.

shadav

Content visible to registered users only.

lol yeah i guess i should have read the readme first before i answered :D

and yeah my site was so heavily modded that i couldn't really exactly upgrade it...but lol, this is me we're talking about...i just upgraded the DB then took my template and altered it to work with 3.2 and reinstalled mods (upgrading some of those that had 3.2 versions)
I mean whatelse are you going to do??? yes it is a pain, or for less headache pay someone that really knows what they are doing to do it for you.....but either way in the end it is worth it, I know most people are like...why should i? but 3.2 offers much more then 2.x and even earlier 3.x and is a lot more user friendly...

anyways lol that was way off topic :D

James

I dunno there is one that comes to mind that would the owner a pretty penny to redo. IT is a shame because imho it is one the nicest ones I have seen.

jamesblue

Sorry I'm still baffled (despite looking at the readme again).

Which files do I need to edit?

shadav
08-18-2007, 04:51 PM
if you have a directory with the default template and no mods added just upload all the files over writting the existing files...

if you have a directory with a custom template and/or mods added
in the download open the files submit.php and include/functions.php and find the code Content visible to registered users only.
copy everything from Content visible to registered users only. until you get to (and copy it as well) Content visible to registered users only.

and place them in the corresponding spots in the submit.php and include/functions.php
now upload the other files...do not upload submit.php and include/functions.php

shadav
01-23-2008, 09:51 PM
i believe that it will block any url with the words in them that you have banned...
