I was setting up my directory on a different URL than the one I actually wanted it. When I tried to copy and paste itt to the real one, my categories and the links do not show up now! I've set the config file to aim at the right database, but still nothing. Am I missing a step here?

What I think is the better way is to reinstall the directory on the new URL and then make it hook up to the database--can I do this and it will automatically create the categories and fill it in with the links? Any suggestions on how to do this?

Thanks.

I will need more information.

is the new address on a different server?
If so does your old account allow remote connects to the database?

Can you just export it via phpmyadmin and import it to the new one?

Sorry, I wasn't more clear. The URLs are hosted on the same server (bluehost).

I originally tried to just copy and paste all the files from the old one to the new URL (essentially just a different folder), but something happened and a lot of it got deleted. However, the database is in a different section and it appears to be fine.

So on the new URL, I reinstalled, and entered in the database information during the install and in the config file. I had 26 categories, and a couple hundred links, that I assume are in the database, but what do I need to do to get them to show up? Should it automatically create and populate the categories if it is attached to the database correctly?

I'm a newbie at this and appreciate the help.

if you used the samedatabase details then yes all your information should still be there.

If not I would have to look at it to get a clear picture as to what is going on.
