View Full Version : Database type at install
I'm trying to install the directory script. I will be using MS SQL server.
On the Database settings page there is a Database type drop down box. The box is empty so there is no database to choose from. I tried doing it with out setting that box and there is an error of
Can't connect to MySQL server on 'SKNET67.gonewithewind.com' (10061)
It's trying to connect to a MySql database by default. This is suppose to work on SQL Server.

I really don't understand this part as well. What path do I need here? When I've created a SQL database, I've entered in the db name properly, the username, the password, but what am I supposed to enter in for:
Database Server*
Is it something i should see when setting up the SQL database in Cpanel?
Is this localhost?
Maybe we are both idiots, but I really don't know...
Search doesn't seem to work, at least when I tried it the last few hours
Thanks
Brian

I think with MYSql which resides off the root of the website you would use localhost. If you plan on connecting to a database server that is not on the same computer as the webserver you need to put a URL or connecting address. I use SQL server which is on a separate server so the address to connect to this server (FOR ME) is 'SKNET67.gonewithewind.com'
My problem is a little different. each database uses a little different connection string. The setup program creates this string. One thing it needs to know is which type of database you are using, the install is providing a drop down box which should contain the type this program is able to use. My drop down box is empty, by default it chooses MYSQL which will not work for me. It will not give me the choice to choose the right type.
I'm guessing that I will need to set this up manually, and specify my own connection string. I know the string but I don't know PHP well enough to guess how it need to be set up
Just noticed your other question. Yes you will find the Database Server in in Cpanel if you plan on using MS SQL SERVER.
