I originally added this as a reply to another thread, but then belatedly saw the bit about it being better to start a new thread even if you're having the same problem someone else is, so here goes:
Like a fair number of people (judging by past threads I've been reading), I initially had problems installing PHP Link Directory because my host (Dreamhost) runs PHP as CGI by default for security reasons.
I was able to successfully complete the install by disabling the PHP as CGI option for that domain, but I'm a bit concerned about having done that because they strongly recommend keeping it that way for security reasons (more details here (https://panel.dreamhost.com/kbase/?area=2933)). Having already had a site compromised once due to a security hole in an outdated WordPress installation, I tend to be a little paranoid about that sort of thing.
Is there any way of getting PHP Link Directory to run with PHP as CGI? Or, failing that, guarding against the security issues that running it as an Apache module opens up?
PHP Link Directory looked like the best of the various link directory scripts I've checked out, but I don't want to have to compromise the security of my site in order to run it...
