my server won't accept .htaccess file

I just installed phpld ver 2 on my yahoo site...
it won't let me copy over the (2) .htaccess files.........
any suggestions,

I believe you can still use the directory without any problems all it means is that you wont be able to have seo friendly urls like:

http://www.yourdomain.com/directory/paid/ etc...

should I move my site to another server?...
I'd rather do that now than later if it's important to have SEO friendly url's...
I haven't done any real setup or added categories etc...

Personally i would as i think that seo friendly urls are important but some people believe they are not such a problem as most search engines these days have no problem indexing dynamic pages.

I'm not a programmer and forgot all about indexing dynamic pages.......
