Increasingly we are seeing phpLD being used as an event directory script. By working with the fields, it is pretty simple to have a date assigned to a listing, and then sort by date. Then using categories it makes it easy to view events by category. Then tweaking the top hits page, it can be turned into an upcoming events page or even a past events page (or both).
