Cannot Add Categories

I installed PHP Link Directory and have logged into the admin page. Everything looks fine except I get the following error when I try to add a new category or a new symbolic category:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /home/nimble3/public_html/directory/admin/dir_categs_edit.php on line 166

What's wrong?

I also failed to add a new category. Can anyone tell me what is to be input for URL Title? Thanks!
