How can I change permission to .tpl in temp/templates/ to modify them?

if you have ftp access, log into ftp right click the file or folder click on properties and then you can change the permissions from there.

Or you can log into your cpanel (or likewise) and log into the file manager and from there you can change permissions.

To modify files the same as above, use ftp or file manager open the file you wish to modify.

Why don't you download the .tpl files you want to change, make your changes, then upload them again, overwriting the old ones?

Content visible to registered users only.

Well, it is very strange. I don't have them on back up.
They were created I guess.
However, if I take one, make the change and upload, I get a message saying "can't upload...permission denied" stuff.
So it never overwrites and the older files stay the same.

I also tried to overwrite the whole "temp/" directory and the whole "/templates" directory. No success.

They're not created (the .tpl files). You must have a copy on your computer if you have phpLD files there unless you have a non-standard template in which case you should make a backup to your pc. If you ftp to your site you can download the folder / files as a backup. ;)

What sort of hosting do you have? cpanel?

It sounds like a permissions problem - if you have a file manager in your hosting you can change the permissions from there. CHMOD them to 777 to allow you to work on them then change it back to what it was previously when you are finished.

Yes, I have cPanel.

However, I cannot make any change.
ftp and cPanel say I have no permission to do so.
I can't chmod, I can't update.

You will need to contact your host to have them look and see who the owner of the files are.

not sure i understood you Dawzz, but lol Cody if this is your site....I suggest changing hosts, a host that doesn't allow you to change permissions to your files, well....not very good...
as for not being able to overwrite files thats a bit odd, are you sure that maybe they don't have a size limit to upload files with?

Is this a new site? Maybe they've just not set up all the permissions for your hosting account yet, i donno...but def contact your host about fixing the problems. You can't very well run any kind of a site without being able to edit stuff.

Unless... if the domain phpLD is on, is an add-on domain to a main account, the permission to edit the files might be main domain only and add-on domains have insufficient privileges?

If it is an add-on domain, logging into the main account should allow sufficient privileges to make the required changes.

no no and no.

I have no idea what happened with OP but I logged in with supplied ftp credentials and changed permissions no problem.

Sometimes depending on the way files are uploaded in the case if cpanel if uploaded via filemanager in zip form and then extracted ... things can get messed up bad as far as in who owns what and then root ends up owning things so that when you login as usernameX you can not do anything with the files.

Note I said sometimes and I haven't seen it with up to date cpanels.
