View Full Version : .htaccess file not allowing google to verify my site

I tried installing a sitemap to google, but google cannot verify my site as the 404 file not found delivers a 200 message and they won't verify a site when it delivers that type of message for a 404 head. I don't know what this means, but my host says it's from the .htaccess file that this scipt uses.
Has anyone run into this issue?
My host is trying to work on this for me, but was just wondering if anyone else has run into this before.

heres the message from google

host says that in the way the .htaccess uses the redirect rule the site will never produce a 404 error and that's why the google site verifier can't produce a 404 page and I get that error when I try to get my site verified.

How did others here get around this when submittiing their sitemap to google?

i had the same problem in the past, fix it in this way.

before u click on the verify button just rename shortly the htacces files. than the virefy works and after that rename it back

OR simply open .htaccess and change 'on' to 'off' before you submit your sitemap to google. Then of course once Its finished you change it back.

LOL!
