First I want to say that the mod developers work is very much appreciated.

One of the most important mods, IMHO, is a dmoz import mod as it is the best way for any new PHPLD to get started. Content, content content ...

I have been banging my head against the wall for several days trying to get any of the three dmoz import mods to work. I'm not wishing an import of the gargantuan directory - just a few categories with a few hundred links to get my directory started. I have read all the posts several times but getting a dmoz import to work is a total mystery to me.

The dmoz import via rss that is built into the latest version of PHPLD looks good but where are the urls to the dmoz category rss feeds to get the data?

From the posts regarding the dmoz import mod made for phpLD2.0 it seems that it has worked for some but like others, all I can get it to do is run the crawler for a second, get a done - now convert message and no category or links :(

The new dmoz import mod requires the downloading and uploading of huge compressed rdf.u8.gz files but these files on the dmoz site are not compressed, they are huge xml version files. From the posts it shows that even if this dmoz import mod does get set up correctly, that it just times out when activated.

Does anyone have a dmoz import mod that works as it would be really helpful for PHPLD newbies like me that are trying to get thier new directories started without having to manually put in hundreds of individual links.

TIA for any help.

well v3.2 does have an import script for it....

there is this posted into the supporters forum > http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9128&highlight=import+DMOZ
not sure if it works with v2.x

and then there is this but be advised that the topic is 2 years old > http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/forum/showthread.php?t=963&highlight=import+DMOZ

there are quite a few threads about this if you search for import DMOZ :)

I am looking for a CATEGORY import mod. A mod that will help me build categories and sub-categories. The latest version has a spider that imports links from within specified categories at DMOZ but not the actuall categories & sub-categories themselves. I have the latest version and I didn't see anything that will allow me to do this.

I've already viewed many of the past posts from all of the forums and did not find a working MOD that will import and populate categories & sub categories from DMOZ.

If anyone can help me find a working mod for this I would appreciate it if you could post a link to it.

phpLD v3 has what is called a quick subcategory adder, so that means you can cut and paste a list of categories (one per line). It usually takes me about 1 hour to get a few hundred categories this way. For example, I did this one in about an hour:

Click on the name of the category in your installation of phpLD v3.
