I hope I'm posting this in the right place.
I am using Mambo and recently installed. I wanted to use phpLD in place of Mambo's core Weblinks, so I placed in in a {broken url removed}
I guess my question is it better to have a stand-alone directory, or is it just as effective to to have it in a wrapper.
TIA

I am not familiar enough with Mambo to comment. We have had people in the past tell us that they wanted to integrate, but as yet nobody has done it. Do you know how to do it?

I am setting up a portal site with mambo myself at the moment and would like to integrate phpld myself but cant find any reference to it
With regard to using the wrapper function, I would imagine that if the directory was on the same domain as your mambo installation then I cant see a problem with that. Maybe someone else knows more that I do?
Which CMS does this main site use?

It seems like the only advantage to using a wrapper is a unified login. Am I right?
I'm guessing it is not worth the trouble in most cases, as you can just login to admin separately.
Content visible to registered users only.
this site uses Mambo.

Apparently, this site uses Mambo, but only for the first four tabs, Home, Features, News, and Downloads. It appears to leave Mambo for the Demo, Forums, and Knowledgebase tabs, and these features just use the same header and footer.
Therefore, the directory DEMO is not wrapped in Mambo, and it is NOT a Mambo component. It just borrows some of the cosmetic elements so that the site looks clean. What you won't see is an integrated login, or a left menu bar when looking at the directory demo.
Right now, if you try to login at the Home page, you will get a sql error. It appears as if there was once an intention of creating an integrated mambo/phpBB forum login. However, it appears as if the bridge has been disabled, but not the integrated login module.

Yes, Mambo is on the way out here. We just don't need all the stuff that it offers.
Very shortly, the article script (modded) will be running the whole site here.
You are right about how we are using it now.

Webigail, I have done a bit more research and it looks like the best thing to do is put your phpld in a folder and create a URL type menu link on your mambo installation, i.e. www.yoursite.com/directory. Alternatively set up a subdomain for the same result.

Hi Gail,
I have set up PHPLD as a separate folder and separate database in a Joomla install. It is controlled by its own admin and appears to work ok.
Just setup as a standalone and use css elements from your Mambo to get the look. Add links back to your main menu items and it will appear to be part of the site, but have the brains of PHPLD.
