Hi westhaven, I'm not representing the PHP Link Directory crew but I've done the installation before.

What you need to do is:
(1) Download phpLinkDirectory2.0RC3 from the Download section.
(2) Unzip the whole archive into a folder and you should have a new folder called phplinkdirectory-2.0.0rc3.
(3) Then upload all the files in the folder to a folder in your website. For this example, let's just assume you upload the all the files into a folder in the web root directory called phplinkdir.
(4) You can then open up your browser and browse to: http://yourdomain/phplinkdir/index.php
(5) You will then start the installation process. Just follow the installation process, it's pretty straight forward. The database information that you mentioned will be prompted by the installation process, you do not need to pre-create the database. You however, need a valid mySQL username and password with appropriate priviledges.

That's about it. If you need more help, just give a yell, I am sure there are lots of people who have successfully installed the application.

Regards,
yktan

Database Server* {removed} or "localhost"

Database Name pankajdir_dir (whether i create a database or not it gives me an error)

i have given all the Privileges to the user

and it gives me this error
An error occured while connecting to the database. Please check your database username and password.

If you require help with your database server settings, please consult your hosting company.

The database server returned the following message:

Access denied for user: {removed} (Using password: YES)

what should i do now.
i am pretty much intrested in installing your script but its not helping me out. if this thing works out then i have to buy couple of domain names for using your script.

You were asked by the installer to enter the details for the administrative user (next screen after the database details). That is what you have to use to login into the admin area.

Take some time and study the admin settings. It takes a little while to learn everything, but I think you will like it in the end.

It's OK. All you need is mysql, the others are not necessary, only optional.

wow that's fast.
thanks, seothatworks.

1. on the Next step, do I need to create the mySQL database first (in cpanel), including database name, user name, password, before I proceed to key in "Database Server" (hostame or ip-address of the database) in phplinkdirectory?

2. on Database server: Hostame or IP-address of the database server. where can I find the information on this? is the IP-adrdress the same as my hosting's root location?

Thanks.

You are welcome, I just happened to be around.

1. don't have the install ready to look at, but for sure create the mysql db,user and pass in cpanel first, before starting install
2. your host shall know. I think usually localhost suffices, that's at least what I have entered myself. if that will not work you would have to ask your host, or perhaps look into your cpanel, mysql section, or into myphpadmin, if it is installed on your webhost, i think, though not sure, that this info shall be available in some of these places. but first go for the localhost....

Content visible to registered users only.
That is fine, but when I uploaded all the files, I get the message "The page cannot be displayed". See here (http://bgkulinar.net/directory/). Any suggestions?

In your files in init.php there is Content visible to registered users only.

and in install/index.php there isContent visible to registered users only.

I guess the problems is that in the root directory I have subdirectory called include which contains files functions.php and config.php

I like phplinkdirectory very much and I want to use it, so plz help

If I understand that correctly, did you try to rename the include directory that resides in the root, and as soon as you run the install procedure and PHPLD is all setup, rename it back to its original name?

I renamed the include directrory in my root but the problem remains

Are you sure there is actually anything inside the http://bgkulinar.net/directory/ folder? It seems like it is completely empty, ie. that PHPLD was not copied into that folder?

Content visible to registered users only.I moved the files to a subdomain and installation went well but I still want to use the script in http://bgkulinar.net/directory/ folder.

A fresh install should get all the paths correctly. I haven't had any trouble. Can you try again?

kulinar

I had already installed the script to a subdomain so I moved all the files to http://bgkulinar.net/directory/ and so far it works fine.

I still thik there is problem while installing the script and having duplicate directory names and files.
