Hi Dan,

Does this mean for people who have previously donated for mod development to you specifically or to others who also do them like Casey, Boby and the phpld in general? All contributions along with and over the basic $25 script, $50 to remove link, and $10 for supporters forum go to the dev of phpld don't they? I was always under the impression that no matter who paid for the mod it would inevitably be included in the updates as it would be pointless making them more than once if the first one worked?

Thanks mate.

Kev

I've yet to use any of Dan's great mods, but i did donate $10 to his cause.

It's unfortunate that he was forced to go this route, but i completely understand, in that, a lot of people take someone elses hard work and code for granted, and never pay respects in return.

i see we have over 1,100 people registered on this board, and he only had $86 in his donations account for all those great MODs he's made.

you people should be f'Kn ASHAMED of yourselves.

I agree with you mate, I won't say how much I have given here as it is making me feel sick that this guy has only got this much! I won't name anyone as that's wrong but I gave one person alone $65 for a mod that never worked properly and certainly couldn't be upgraded with any versions! Thats just one mod Rob, I've had lots made

Ah well, at least I ain't ashamed :) Not like lots of lamers! Like the feedback for your site, deserved. Them pics look sorted now.

I didn't know that this chap has been rewarded so little, thats way out of line!

Thanks all =) I'm far from pleading poverty, but donations served to compensate for the time to develop these and future mods, and for the support I offer (in the phpLDforums, private messaging and direct emails) - I offer the same level of support whether someone purchases one of our high-end applications or one of our inexpensive freeware/shareware applications. These mods were never meant to be a primary or even secondary revenue stream. But a fair bit of work goes into their development, maintenance, and support. At any rate, I'm keeping the mod price points very reasonable =)

BTW, if anyone made a donation, do get in touch with me, so I can set you up with access to where you can download future versions - and access to the priority support forum (on our server).

Hi Kev:

I'm not sure if I totally follow. David may duplicate some of the mods (mine and others), but that would be independent of the original mod - which in my case, I'm not part of the phpLD development team. If I know that David has a certain mod planned for a future version of phpLD, then I will not code it. I don't believe in reinventing the wheel, and do not want to charge people for something that will be included in a future version of phpLD. If David writes a mod into a future version of phpLD that mirrors one of my mods in terms of functionality, I may provide the option where if you already purchased that mod from me, you can get another mod for no additional charge.

Hey Dan... i sent you a small donation, but i never used any of your great mods(so far at least). Does that mean i can reserve the donation for something that may come along in the future that i might like? that would be great.

:D

I´m in the wrong film? 25$ for phpLD3.0 + 10$ Support and now am I to pay still for MOD´s?

That is not fair!

The mods are independently written third party applications that add enhanced functionality to the original application. Nothing new here, and has been part of the scene since the digital revolution began. Almost very application software (whether *nix-, Windows-, or Mac-based) is open to third party application development. Some are freeware, but most are shareware or buy-up-front. Just look at the huge number of helper utility applications developed for Windows alone.

But unlike many of my counterparts (phpLD / David aside as they stand above the others for their excellent support), I offer lifetime technical support and unlimited upgrades. I do not code for the fun of it when I get home from some day job. This is my business. It's what pays the bills, and charging a small nominal fee promotes future development of the existing and future mods - in addition to maintaining my excellent level of support.

This brings phpLD to another level. Good or bad i don't know.

But i payed 25$ for the script, 10$ for support and 50$ for the copyright removal.

My way of working was use some mods and give mod updates or support back. I did that for 1 month now. My private mailbox is exploding with questions and i reply every message (if i can).

I used 1 mod from your listing and i know when i upgrade from 3.0.2 to 3.0.3 it will not work. Now i have to pay for it, no problem.

But do i have to ask money now for the support and the little contributions i can give for the phpLD community? So i can pay my mods...

And VSDan what about the people who helped you with this mods? (de-bugging & finetuning)

I'm working with OS software for 5 years now but i never seen this.

just my2c

ooh david is it allowed to have a Donation button in my signature?

... just kidding.

Good points.

1. I will still support the previous mod releases. And, if you discover that any of my mods do not port over to new releases of phpLD, I will make every effort to isolate the problem and fix the issue. And in the case of the donationware mods, then post the fix (i.e., code to change) in the phpLD forum. In the case of the commercial mods, update the ZIP distribution files on our server. Note that my mods work 100% up to and including 3.02. I still have to upgrade to 3.03, but do not anticipate any issues (any portability issues to date have been due to template upgrades) - largely due to the fact that my mods do not change any phpLD core PHP files. The major difference is that the commercial mods will be upgraded over time to add improvements and enhancements. So in a nutshell, you do not have to worry about migrating to newer versions of phpLD.

2. Anyone that contributed significantly (financially or via suggestions / debugging etc.) to the development and/or improvement of a mod will, of course, receive free lifetime access to that mod's download area. Contributors just have to PM me =) People just have to get back to me with some posts where they contributed, and I'd happy to grant people licenses. I know that there is probably a dozen or more contributors out there.

Hi Dan, I guess what I was trying to say was that I have not used you personally as I didn't know you did mods, but I have contributed to the phpld as a whole, I can post my paypal if you like but I don't want that mate. I'm going to send you some $$ even if I don't use your mods, but at least I will be able to if I need. I understand your need to do this but was kind of hoping that the team at php were pooling resources. But hey you do it your way thats fine by me. Can you p.m me or post your paypal account so I can send you something.

Cheers mate and good luck.

I have been rethinking this, and may do something different. I still have to discuss it with David. I may go back to offering the mods as donationware - which would be supported by myself and (hopefully in part) the community. So, return to the status quo.

Then I would offer an enhanced version of phpLD. Similar to what has been done with osCommerce, Gossamer Links SQL, etc. The enhanced version would be the current version of phpLD, with all of the mods built in - along with other enhancements. For example, the enhanced version (e.g., phpLD Turbo) would sell for $25 + $XX. With every sale, $25 would be transferred to David. If you wanted 3.x support forum access and/or copyyright removal license, you would go through David. I would provide priority support for my built in mods and enhancements. So, if you want individual mods or if you want to 'turbocharge' your phpLD yourself, you can - for free. Otherwise, you can purchase the already turbocharged version. Either way, I will provide support to all - but phpLD Turbo License Owners would get priority support.

Seems fair =) How does that sound? Again, I have to hear from David. For the time being, I have opened up public access to my mods. I still plan to host the mods on my server if I offer them as donationware.

Dan, it sounds like an awesome idea that I think a lot of people would go for.

In either event, I think you have the right idea, and should be receiving more than you have been for your contributions.

Thanks =) At least now people will have options, and it still maintains the status quo for those who just want the mods. Seems fair to everyone =)

anon that's slightly off putting for some of us who have only just found this site. A lot of people make mods for different products, myself included, and yeah it gets slightly tedious supporting them for zero income.

Am prepared to pay for product(s), mods, templates, whatever, but do tend to check them out first. As l'm currently doing with vers 2 of the directory product, before committing my hard earns to vers 3. Thus far a couple of problems encountered, but early days l reckon.

Also evaluating a free articles management system, and will hit the donate button there as the guy provides the product free of charge along with support.

Most products have a 101 modifications available for free, and free support once you purchase. I note support here is an addition $10 per year.

So nope don't feel "f'Kn ASHAMED" at all to be honest.

If you have a credit card, you can pay via 2CO or PayPal (you do not need to have a PayPal account to pay via PayPal). Otherwise, the only other two options are to pay via mail (can take a few weeks) or Western Union (same or next day). Sorry.

Hey VS Dan, does phpLD HTACCESS Rewriter cause the phpLD url to go from http ://www .myphpLDsite.com/index.php?c=8 to http ://www .myphpLDsite.com/Music_Category.html ?

I'm needing the links to become SEO friendly links.
The RewriteCond code in .htaccess alone doesn't seem to do it. Anyway, if you could let me know, I'd appreciate it.

If your mod does transform the URL to a SEO friendly URL, I'll be joining up for your mods ASP!
Thanks.

Hi,
I need "Listing Details".
But it is only for 3.xx, I need for 2.xx version.
& I have another problem, 10$ is not possible to give now.
So i need only "Listing Details", how much you need only for this mod?
Please reply.

VSDan
05-16-2007, 10:53 PM
The [Listing Details] mod, like all phpLD_Vault mods, is for all versions of phpLD (including 2.xx and 3.xx). However, at this time anyways, mods are not sold separately.

Dan, David, Dawzz...can you guys give me a solution for my phpld 3.2 directory? I do need a solution for my visitors in order to be able to send me 4-5 pictures and txt files (batch upload) along with the fields from "submit page". I bought VSDan phpld Vault and the file uploader mod seems suitable but i need to know if i can add 2, 3 fields (browse) and if i can receive files up to 1MB.
I hope i made myself clear enough.
Thank you guys.

The file uploader mod should already allow you to do what you want (if I am understanding you correctly).

I have it installed at www.GateUK.com (http://www.GateUK.com) and have it set for 4 uploads with each submit. Not sure about the file size issue though, as often that is dependent on your host and / or your hosting configuration.

Bruce.

Thanx Bruce!
My host is HostMonster so I suppose i can receive in my mailbox 4-5 files up to, let's say 500kb each (both images and .txt or .doc files). I didn't have much time to test VSDan's image uploader and this is the reason i posted my inquiry. I wanted to know if with basic customization i am able to embed into my directory some sort of www to email form, helped by "image uploader".

Best regards

P.S. Your directory is terrific and maybe you can tell me how can i have one navigation map like yours.

and he'd be able to go into more detail if anything does need changed on his own forum then he would be able to do so here (where people haven't paid for his mods ;) )
