Expired Listings

Because my first Premium listings are expiring (1 YEAR) on my LinkForever directory I thought it would be nice to have a mod offering auto renew of expiring listings.
And so I did it and launched mod live.

Created the list of expired links and links expiring in nearest 30 days:

Each owner can use a link and submit to renew his listing.

Information about days left I also put on listing detail.
If it is less than 30 days to date expire - link to renew page appear.

Edited: the link above is not actual anymore.
It was renewed :) and shows again 365 days left.

Renewing goes in automatic way. Once payment done listing is automatically renewed - no need to edit it.
Additionally as I use deep links - it is also possible to define it if it was not done while first submision.

I know this feature will not be interesting for YOUNG directories.
But I'm also sure it could be very useful for older dirs using expiration date.

I'm sure I will not share the mod for download as too many directories use so different unusual link types, deep links etc. No way to build universal code.
However if someone will be really interested we can always talk about it.

BTW. Because I was working on many, many different directories I noticed for most of it date_expiry is not set for FEATURED links.
So we could think it's impossible to retrieve expiration date. However because in most cases date added is nearly same to date expire it can be used for that. With simple code we can set expiry date from date added.
Then make necessary changes in functions to make date expire working from this moment.
That was done for LinkForever and works perfect now.

As you see, renew submission page is rewrited in nice way. :)
Other thousands pages to be indexed.
Definetely must put some unique content on it.

Now I'm creating additional code for sending automatic email with the link to renew page.
Email will be sent to the owner 1 time when his listing will be less than 10 days to expire.

After some time:
And so I created function for sending emails. First emails sent (nice HTML format) - it's automatic.
Think Chris will be the first to renew his AliveDirectory listing

Still on Top so:
As suspected above I had first renewal payment.
You can see AliveDirectory dissapeared from expiring list.
EMail was sent. The owner renewed the link, also defined 5 new deep links.
All went very smooth and automatic. :)

If it would be possible I coukd share it for download.
However

1. Changes to payment system goes on existing system, must be done very carefully.

2. Directories are using different systems for link rewrite - I can't know it and can't create universal code. Link URL is showed and used in so many places so clearing it would be too much comlicated.

3. For advanced features like deep links I use 1 more table, 1 more after payment function. So I should know how many deep links someone use, what code was used to create it (different names in tables).
This is another reason I can't create universal code for that. Hope you understand

So there'll be no mod to dowload - think you understand.
However I will prepare it so I could as easy as possible install on someone's directory after necessary changes.

In few days I should be ready for that. But I will not install that on fresh directories as I prefer to avoid dissappointed clients.
Can do that for people who understand how useful + profitable such mod can be.

Please don't take me wrong, but had too many clients that expect mods to make wonders. Mods are only helping for nice results in SERPS or TRAFFIC, helping to make additional incomes. But all of it only in GOOD HANDS.

What is the default behavior for phpLD when listings are about to expire and aren't done on a subscription?

Content visible to registered users only.
Listings are not displayed anymore. Nothing happens. No option to resubmit.

That's why it is good to inform the owner his/her listing expire soon and give him/her a chance to renew for next period in extremely easy way (1 click).

Other thing that should be checked is DATE_EXPIRY. If it is set correctly.
If it is EMPTY (I saw it on most of dirs) listing is displayed PERMANENT.

I know very well not so many would be interested in the mod.
Most of directories are young and owners do not think what will be after a year. In many case directory is dead after few months.

So this is what I wrote - for ESTABLISHED directories.
In my case that would be stupid to loose hundreds of payed submissions after a year. I believe 30-50% will pay to renew listings if only directory remains strong and popular.

Users should certainly be notified once a listing is expiring if they aren't subscribed for renewals, and given an easy way to renew. I assumed it was default behavior to be honest.

About the expiry date not being filled, is there any code in particular to change in order to make sure that doesn't happen?
