Creating Categories

Is there a way or a mod that will create my categories preferably without importing links? Preferably creating subcategories. Which is the best mod for this?

I see so many php directories with the same type of categories. How is this done?

Most directories have either been manually populated or populated using Dmoz import.

If you want categories and subcategories without manul insertion you could always import the categories using the Dmoz Import Mod, however this also imports the links. This is not a problem if you import the categories and links then mass delete all links via your database. That way you'll just be left with the categories. :)

This is great information I will check it out. It would be nice if a mod like this was incorporated into the original scripts or the info into the wiki. Kudo's and thanks again. As I am sure I am not the first moron who has had the same problem.
