View Full Version : Considering Removing the Wiki

I'm coming to the conclusion that the Wiki is not really serving a very good purpose. For one thing it is nearly impossible to post code. And for another, we are getting hit with spammers all the time.
Anybody have any suggestions of a better method to post code in an organized fashion that allows users to contribute?
And as is increasingly important in recent times, removing links (http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37332) can be a priority, especially when potential spam is involved

Why don't you consider installing Knowledge Base MOD for phpbb?
Phpbb.com has a slightly older version of it but you get the geist. Admin can specify all user permissons, everything can be categorize quite perfectly.
Example
Here (http://www.phpbb.com/kb/list_articles.php?category_id=1)
Root Discussion Thread;
Here (http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=200195&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0)
For Phpbb, Download Thread from authors site;
Here (http://www.mx-system.com/index.php?page=4&action=file&file_id=55)
Bug fix threads;

The install file suggests it takes 5 mins to install so it's an option you can explore.

You could just set up a directory for users to add their directories to. Check out this one here. It has all the features you need :-
* Reciprocal checking to make sure the link back is there.
* Captcha to stop the spammers etc.
* plus many more

That's funny! And it's sort of idiotic to not use our directory to list directories. Just have to find the time to get this done.
I was also considering moving over to vBulletin for the forum. The directory knowledge base (http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/kb/) does seem appealling though. I assume the bb code can be used. I'll give this some strong consideration.
Vbulletin is a lot better and more user friendly, IMO. It also offers a lot more features.

Can we have our own knowledge base that allows us to submit code easily?
