I've just downloaded the 2.version, to get to know it before I buy the 3.version.

As a totally newbie I followed the instruction for install by Chris Rutherford, located here on this forum, as help for install.

But every time I get to 'step 3 - go to the url where you uploaded phpld2'
I get this message:

--------
Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
--------------

I have tried to e-mail support of my host, and are wating for answer, but in the meantime, does anyone know what this is, and how to correct it???

in the htaccess file
place a # in front of all lines that start with

uuhhhh, this is great... thanks a lot....

Now it says: Configuration file is still writeable by the user the webserver runs under. This poses a major security risk, please drop writing permissions for include/config.php file immediately!

How low should I set it??

set the permissions to 644.
you can also try 755 or 775.

if you're using a FTP client, usually you right click on the file and select "cmod" or "change permissions".
in Cpanel select the file and hit the "change permissions" button.
or if you have shell access:

well, du use/have ftp, but my system does not show it in numbers (644, 755 and so on)
It shows in a little something like this:

read - write - run/exe
owner x x x
group x x
all users x x

And I'm not sure I dare to remove alle the x's

644
Content visible to registered users only.755
Content visible to registered users only.0 means "unchecked"

this is not good then, beacuse that is what it is set to 755, but I stille get the:

Configuration file is still writeable by the user the webserver runs under. This poses a major security risk, please drop writing permissions for include/config.php file immediately!

Everytime I log on to admin...

I will try the 644 then

Strange I think........

Content visible to registered users only.

Boby

hmm, I know there are some hostings where it won't let you to completely drop writing permissions to a file (at least not drop them for the current user).
if you have cPanel access, try it that way and it will work in most cases.

If the file is not writeable by "all users" you're fine.

Well, I will try to find out... And hope to be fine anyways..

And thanks for your time and help

set it to 444 via control panel file manager.

I'm pulling hair now....

There must be something very wrong with either my host or my com, I am simply unalbe to edit anything by those numbers 644 and so on (even in my cp, numbers dosent exsist anywere), and editing the the properties of the file via checkboxes in my ftp, does not get rid of the warning...

Thanks god this is just a test-play for me, but I would really like to understand and get everything right before I start making the "real" one...

Marius - I'm getting tooo old

is it cpanel or what?

marius
08-25-2007, 06:56 PM
the cpanel or filemanager of my host does not have any options to set this,
only by rightclick on file in ftp makes it possible, but the warning is still visible.

if you have cPanel 11, you select the file and somewhere on top of the screen you have a menu with actions. there must be also a "change permissions" button.
if you have cPanel 10 (and below I think) you have the "change permissions" button on the right side of the screen.

PS: if you want, send me via PM access to your cPanel and I'll check it out. also for phpLD admin panel.

The cpanel is short for the controlpanel that I can log in to via the host that I am using, right, or ????

Because I can not make any changes in read-write-run there, either in the filemaneger that is included in my host's controlpanel.
As said I've also tried to change the checkboxes by rightclick on file in the "standart ftp", but it dosent get rid of the warning.
Someone tried to tell me something about a string in CHMOD, but I could not make that work either, the warning is still there.

Have I mentioned that I am a newbie nere :)
