Hi
I wanted to begin a MAJOR phpLD project (with investments of over $10,000 in 2007), but did not want to start spending on templates, mods etc for the new phpLD v 3.3 to be released.
It would mean a lot of mess and time spent updating mods and templates wouldnt it?

Actually Mike can not say for sure until I see a pre release beta.
I do know we are trying very very hard to make the upgrade as painless as possible in terms of tempalte changes.
Any mods added to the core files (php pages) will of course have to be re-added
That is why I suggest and have started placing everything possible in the init.php

However in your other post you mention that you a programmer so you should be able to handle any changes easily using winmerge etc
I don't anticipate a major code revamp :)

The db upgrade process is pretty painless, and we provide a list of changes to templates, so it shouldn't be too bad to upgrade. We will always keep getting better, and you can expect upgrades every few months, so hopefully that is also a good thing. :)

Thanks for the advice guys :) I already bought the lisence and installed the script. I guess its full steam ahead.
Some directory owners are running phpLD 3.1, and have never bothered upgrading. I guess it shouldnt be too much of a problem, the amount of times i need to upgrade vbulletin.

I updated from v3.1 to v3.2 a month ago and it was a petty smooth update.
As far as Mods, well yes, just like any php script, if you have done your own changes, you need to keep track of it.
But I don't think it would be a big problem to update in most cases. :)
