If there is anyone that would like to volunteer to help create language files for phpLD, it would be appreciated. Here is what will need to be translated:

Here is a copy of the language file. If you are able to translate, I will gladly give you a discount.
Thanks,

I would propose translations are posted right in the forum as as did. Create a new post called:
Italian Translation
French Translation
etc.
There are two people that have said they plan to work on the French translation. It's good we have help, but hopefully you can coordinate the work with each other.
Thanks!

Hi,

I'll translate phpLD into german language, but i have litte problem. How can i get or create the ID for a new topic/phrase/word like this?
$__LANG['bd908db5ccb07777ced8023dffc802f4'] = 'Links';

At this time 'Latest Links' ist not available.

kind regards
Jappi

Hello!

Content visible to registered users only.Let me explain how language files work:

When you look at a template file (.tpl) you can see some text that is written between {l}text{/l}. In script files (.php) you see the text as _L('text'). This are the two possibilities to mark a text for translation. All orher won't be translated.

We want now to translate "Latest Links":
$__LANG['d287eed16f1879c63a1308dba3021060'] = 'Latest Links';
The red highlighted alphanumeric string is the md5 hash for the blue highlighted string.
Both, string and md5 hash need to match perfect, one small change and the hash does no match.

If you found a new piece of text that is not in your language file, you can calculate it's md5 with one of the following web based calculators:
{non working url removed}
{link no longer operational}

Thank you for the support by writing language files!
Good luck!

Hi Boby,

thank you, it works fine.
The translation can take one while, because i design a 3 columns-template an d in order i translate step by step.

hm... I´ve got a dumb question:

I´m translating into german... Must i recalculate the md5 of every translation, or can I use te md5 from the original english template so that i only have to translate the words????

You have just to translate :) use the old md5 sums.

Because I can't really get it to work....

neurosis4u
03-18-2006, 02:05 PM
see in your pm

you can replace the english file with this german version. It works fine in version 2 of the script.. without being perfect .In this file isnt a translation for payment section, and not all words of the script are in the language-file translated.

If you use it in Version 3.03 there are a few words that are difficult to read because of problems with ä,ö,ü.
The install process works in german for both versions. And you can handle the admin-area in both versions... Okay, its not perfect... but it works. If i find time, i work it over.

brk
03-18-2006, 05:14 PM
OK, so you just and only replace the content of the lang file en.php with the translated code as above...

Here's a spanish translation of the file. I didn't include special characters like ó, Ã**censored**, etc.

Question: If special characters are needed, can I just input the characters directly or should I use their ascii code??

Suggestions, comments, welcome :D

I finished the Portuguese translation, but I have a problem.

- If i don't use accents, the words are incorrectly writen .. so this is not an option.
- If I use accents (Ã**censored**) the word "TÃ**censored**tulo" is shown as "Ttulo".
- If I use ascii code, the world "TÃ**censored**tulo" is shown in the page as "Título" ... it may be a problem when parsing the string.
- If I use characteres (I don't know the name, i just use poEdit to generate the char and then copy & paste) like à (it represents "Ã**censored**"), the word "TÃtulo" is shown as "T?tulo" ...

Any other options?
Is there any translation tool to help me with this?

Edit: I notice that this problem (apparently) is only with the Ã**censored** letter.

I tried to change my german language file but there is no effect on changes?!

I changed for example "Links" text - no effect.

I changed the link text and build new hash code - no effect.

I changed to english language file and then back to german (to see if changes are read only once with setup) - no effect.

When I saved the new file in UTF-8, phpld did not start.

So how does everybody changes his language files ???

I am curious as to wether the site could be offered in Multilingual to the visitor and and not just installation , so the site is translated automatically at the visitor perhaps selecting there language from a drop down menu if so any suggestions on how I could go about it.....

David

It depends if you are talking about all the links and category names or only the site navigation links. I think we would need a more detailed explanation of what you want to do.

Yes, but only for useraccounts in the latest phpLD 3.1.0 and 3.0.6

Does that mean you will be translating the link titles, descriptions and categories yourself? I don't understand the plan exactly. Based on what I have heard so far, it sounds like some customization would surely be needed. Being able to swith between language files, however, is not all that difficult.

atrades
12-29-2006, 06:36 PM
From what I have seen in other PHP scripts it gives the ability for the site to be translated automatically including categories, just not obviously images

To "translate automatically" would require a very powerful language engine! :) We don't have anything like this that would translate all the link titles and descriptions on the fly. Even if we did, don't you agree there would be some issues with semantics?

What we will have shortly is a new tool for translating phpLD itself, making it much easier to run a diretory in any language.

Could I ask about the translation? I tried to translate the submit a link page and if I change something in the text it has no effect in some strings, such as:

"Submit Link" the header

"Reci. Link URL:"

"To validate the reciprocal link please include the following HTML code in
the page at the URL specified above, before submiting this form:"

"Submit" - the button label

I tried to change the checksums (md5), I even tried to change directly the text in the en.php file and it had no effect. Is there a way how to translate it into any other language?
Please help me, bc it is a do or die feature for me considering I want to make a foreign directory...

EDIT: I have just found out it is a problem in some templates.

Could anyone explain me how to translate the English version
into some other language, cos till the current moment I haven't
figured it out.

When I use the language editor and "change and save" some words
from there.. all of the changes do not apply on the web-page.
For example "latest articles" doesn't turn into "hiljutised artiklid"
which is "latest articles" in Estonian.

If I change the "latest articles", "latest links", "contact" from the
"en.php" lang file into "hiljutised artiklid", "hiljutised lingid", "kontakt"
and save it as "ee.php", upload it, upload the config file showing
to use "ee.php" file. Still doesn't work. Definitely not related with
chmod issue either. What should I do, use?

Please please please. Help me out here :o

Thanking in advance, tom.

Yep. Still remain the same.

As well the names "categories", "statistics", "articles" on

I put the partly translated language file up.
Can anyone run it on the professional theme 3.3
and see if it shows "contact" as "kontakt" as in
the language file or still stays "contact"
As well the "search" should turn into "otsing" before the search bar

firmad.net/ee.rar

neurosis4u
02-01-2008, 12:50 PM
otsing is displayed now

use the following string for "Latest Links:

'd287eed16f1879c63a1308dba3021060' => 'LatestLinks in Your Language',

for your contact use the following:
'bbaff12800505b22a853e8b7f4eb6a22' => 'test',

I´ve just tested it with your language file...it works
just put this line into your file... after uploading clear /temp/templates on your server and refresh your browser

Mate, You're the best! Very much appreciate that you were
willing to do it, and gave me some examples how some hashes
work. Thanks :)

The whole problem was that there aren't all hashes in en.php language
file which I started to edit. On the other hand I found that some
problems occurred because the professional theme doesn't have
some {l} {/l} marks in .tpl files.

Developers, for example in professional theme left_side.tpl doesn't
have these for CATEGORIES, nor for STATISTICS. Maybe they don't
have to have, but the other languages won't work with it otherwise.

Well, I've understood that in tpl files the strings that are between {l} and {/l} are the strings that can be translated.

Now I've found that on my directory installation I see "Total Articles" that remains untraslated because I can't find a "Total Articles" in en.php file.

There is a way to obtain a "clean" english file so I can translate all occurrencies that are untranslated?

Bye,

We'd be happy to work with someone who can go over the most used pages in phpLD and tell us what needs to be changed. And we'll be happy to compensate you with a free license.
Right now, I know this doesn't sound great, but a crappy translation is a little better than no translation at all, and we very much want to help you and others. I don't personally know anyone from Norway, but I'd love to make a friend, and get this better. :)

Hi David, I would like to do the Norwegian translation, if it is still required. I have just finished translating everything in the free version and currently testing the files. I would appreciate a free license in exchange for translating the new version. I have translated a few other scripts and apps, such as Hot Keyboard Pro (macro tool) and Zoph (gallery). Whenever it is requested, I also don't mind updating the files, to reflect any significant software updates.

I am not sure how we would do this, but you can always reach me via my profile :)

I posted in this thread, offering my services in regard to translating the script from English to Norwegian. My forum post was removed and I did not receive any explanations from the moderators. I sent you a PM, David, please respond. I look forward to your answer and if possible, an explanation. Thanks in advance.

David

Actually it was not deleted. It was just in "moderated" status. You probably used a work somewhere that set off the spammer guard. It was not intentional.

James
08-23-2009, 05:13 PM
I didn't see it while moderated but I can tell you for sure it was triggered since it was your first post without having an active license and you mentioned other products which will automatically put the post into moderation.

That is just how it works here due to spammers in the past. Nothing personal.

Splinterbiz
08-23-2009, 05:14 PM
Ahh, that explains it. I mentioned two scripts that I had previously translated, it could be what triggered it. Thanks for the prompt answer, I appreciate it :)

Thanks both of you, I'll update my PM.

I just installed 4.0 and try to use the german interface. It's a disaster! I'm now searching how to reset the admin area to english. So I'm able to understand what to do in the admin area. I suppose the german file is just a google translation?

Iif it helps, I will translate the files for a german version ... if I find the configuration point to switch back to the english interface. :-)

Hello all,

This is my 2nd time i try to use PhpLD still not using it because the language, i bought the script because it has the language i need to use, but this is a crap Google translation, so ... something i dont understand ....

I see the Language file posted here just with few lines, this is just for the user side rigth ?

So .. if i translate this for my language and replace the Language what happens with the admin language ?

I mean ... i dont want to translate the admin and users language, just the users side language. Is there a easy way to do this or i still need to translate all the 151 Kb lang file ? Its hard to know wich are the user phrases and the admin ones

Thank you

So .. as i dont have time to translate 1945 lines of code i think i will still dont use this, for me this was a wast of $, i bougth this a long time ago and time to time i come back to check the news and if the language i need is correct, but no luck.

In my opinion you should remove the languages from the demo and use just the english one or the ones your are sure that they are correct translated, as many other are not correct translated and people buy the script thinking that they have the language they need.

Thank you very much for your time.

David

Well, I'm certainly willing to continue improving it. We've done a lot of work on other languages, and will be happy to continue on this one. If possible, are there any pages that particularly were bad. Also, in the admin, is one of the reasons it is not understandable the menu on the left?

It is hard to understand now, lots of wrong translations.

if you provide me with the 4.0 text i am willing to translate to dutch,
