Those are good suggestions. I especially like #5.

I second to the #5. It is especially needed for users submitting to dirs with large no. of cats. It is hard to find the correct cat by browsing only, search is best. It was also listed as one of the biggest complaints from submitters to directories I have seen on one webmaster forum.
