The search on this script as you all probably know is a little weak in that it doesn't pick up categories or differentiate between different topics like other good scripts. If you type in dmoz the christianity it will give you results but also direct you to other categories that contain the topics. At present the search is to cacnt as it only searches for keywords. I am willing to contribute to the development of this mod, alternatively I will go to e-lance which I think is not the way forward. :(

Thanks.

Kev

Thanks for the help but no that is way too weak, what we need to make this script any good is for it to be able to display the variety of categories and sub categories a keyword can be found in. For example if you type in pets in dmoz and other scripts for that matter they not only show you results for pets they show you a bundle of sub categories that they come in. The way the search is now it does not know how to differentiate between types of pets, or anything, it just give you a massive load of links that contain the keyword pets. I have asked before and apparently it is going to cost a lot to develop? I don't think its fair for me on my own to pay $100's for it? It looks like I might have to look outside of php for the solution which is sad

um...we are already working on that.
I'm very close to the first goal of cacheing the child-parent relationships for each category, so that we can speedily display results without using recursive queries that are inefficient and slow.

This first step will likely be done in only a couple more days. Once completed, diplaying search results like you describe will be a peice of cake. :D

Hi David,

Thanks for clearing that up, I've already seen examples of this working on other sites, and even with phplinks so was surprised when this wasn't already implimented. I understand that this doesn't come free and as a gesture to the development of this mod and phplinks am going to donate $50 to help with the time it takes to do this. I hope that this pricks the conscience of others who will gladly use this much needed mod into contributing, or do you plan to charge for it as it is such an important albeit integral part of the impending success of phplinks? I could donate more but I would be playing into the hands of the people who want everything for nothing and then have the cheek to criticise you for having a closed forum.

I will of course p.m you to let you know the paypal payment id

Kevin

P.S. To my word I have kickstarted this with the donation above.... Come on everyone, if we all chip in a little a lot will get built!
