Here is a list of the changes for 3.01 (from 3.0). We are now in a state of rapid development and it is my pleasure to continue to bring more features and improvements.

1) Really Simple Captcha - Is really, really simple and readable. It works with built in fonts, as well as GD or True Type if available.
2) Maintenance Section
- Database Backup Feature: create a zip or sql file just like phpmyadmin. This file can be saved on the server, downloaded or emailed.
- Query Feature: Allows you to do some simple queries to the database.
3) Search Feature in Admin: Allows you to search for links and approve or delete (especially helpful when many links to approve)
7) XHTML Compliant: Certainly there are many template available now, but by default we want to be fully validated.
4) Fix for the numeric ID problem in links
5) Yahoo Sitemaps integration

Still to come shortly are (these items are already completed, but we are still doing some final testing):
1) Detail Page: Works with or without mod rewrite.
See the More Info Links. It will be similar in phpLD.
2) Category Cache: There will be a new table added to the database, that caches the full category tree for each category(ex. business > services > incorporation > by state). As soon as this is done it will clear the way for other important and requested features, such as being able to display categories in search results. Right now, we can do this, but not fast enough. That is why we need a cache.
3) Mod Rewrite when there is pagination

I just updated to Version 3.01 and it went fairly smoothly. I like the new features; they definitely make the updates very worthwhile. I did have some minor problems though with the templates. By uploading a few of the new templates, I lost the work that I had done previously with some mod updates.

I know I have to backup my original templates. I was wondring if there could be some explanations of the new templates with each version update that tells what the new features of the individual templates are, so we can decide if it is necessary to copy them to the server.

With another directory software that I subscribe to, only the .cgi and .pm files need to be updated and none of the templates are affected.

Perhaps, your team could incorporate all of the mods into the newer versions so this won't be an issue?

Anyway, I love the software, and feel free to check out my Version 3.01 site at: http://daviefla.biz

I will be ordering at least 2 more licenses soon.

Content visible to registered users only.

You will get access to all future releases of the 3.0 branch of code.
I am reserving the right to release a 4.0 in future, but that will surely me months away. You'll have access to quite a few updates over the next few months.

Do you have a 3.01 demo up and running?

I'd much rather be able to test the 3.xx version first.

I'd like to see:

1. adsense/yahoo ads integration.
2. web based on-site editing
3. search that cross indexes
4. a pre-defined start up directory with categories subs etc etc

Does 3.0 have properly working hits counter for crossbrowsers? I can't seem to increase outgoing hits in Firefox only IE..

Javascript clicktracking (http://www.smart-it-consulting.com/article.htm?node=155&page=96)

Maybe this can help?

And is there a massmailer yet? That would be really helpful for newsletters and such...

And international support for category languages such as converting special characters ie. "å ä ö" into "aa ae oe" for search engines?

In that case I would be willing to pay for it. :P

As people purchase the script and tell us what they need in the supporters forum, we are adding new features to 3.0. I will be happy to work toward adding these features.

I purchased 3.0, and downloaded 3.02, but I could not find upgrade instructions.

It would be nice if your support forum was "visible" to everyone, but you could only POST questions and suggestions if you had purchased support. I hate buying or considering upgrading this product blind, without seeing what people who are installing it are encountering.

I checked phpld.com. Is the ability to select multiple categories for a single directory entry part of 3.0? For me, because I have made dozens of mods, this is the only feature that would be worth the upgrade (and redoing all my mods).

I see this a nice 3.0 to 3.01 feature list in green at the top of this forum. Is there a version document that shows the feature changes from 2.0 to 3.0 in similar detail? How about 3.01 to 3.02?

I'll post that now. Thanks for the reminder.

With regard to the Supporters Forum, it is highly recommended that you pay the $10, and join. You don't have to pay it for every directory you own...just a single time. I must treat everyone fairly, and this is the way we set it up.

Hi Dave,

There are instructions for upgrading as well as lots more in the Supporters Forum. More here:
http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2191
If you go to the homepage there is a donate link. It will take you to paypal. Select "I do not have a paypal account". Then proceed with using your credit card.

Thanks,
David

David

There is not a date for this yet, but the general goal is to make it so the free version is 6 months older than the latest version.

Daredad,

maybe the reason you did not get much response, is because there is not much of a difference in appearance between versions. Only in the newest version 3.03, is there actually something identifiable, which is the new registration and login fields.

it is the backend features that make the newer versions so much better.

www.bloggeries.com 3.02
www.freerecipesites.com 3.01
www.tripsdirectory.com 3.02
www.shops.hk 3.02

for more, you can go to www.phpldtemplates.com and look at the list of directories.

Was there a response to this? I would also love to see a demo.

I dont think there is a "Demo" up and running. I know David is extremely busy working on the most current version.

However, If you will give me util tomorrow, I will put up a demo of the latest version that you can look at. I will provide admin login info as weel, so that you can see the admin panel.
