Not telling you, you are competition! :D

Good luck to those with one link and those with 200,000.000. Oops almost give my number of links away then!

Good luck all.

God, I must be sad or bored or both! While waiting for support to come on a problem I thought I would while away the time looking at the 12407 active links in AllDotNet.com! I added it up to be a max of 5,337, not including the zillions of google ads on the site. Is your counter broken or something?

Not taking a nasty dig at you but if your gonna make a claim then you have to be bold enough to back it up or take the stick if dullheads like me have five minutes to spare to look!

Either way a neat looking layout but I did see a constant script error coming up on the left bottom corner of my screen? Don't know where your site needs debugging?

Take care and take down the claim, at the best you'll get little digs, at the worst the taxman will go wow, 12407 X $4.95 = $61,000 plus of revenue which puts you in the higher band of declarable tax :? Just whiling away the time :)

Hopefully i'll be able to get back to you all in 4-6 months.

redesigning the template from scratch to fit into my site at this point. figure it'll take a good 2 months to get everything incorporated and working properly. ( i have no smarty knowledge, but am grasping the concept of it pretty well)

then another 3-4 of SEO to hopefully gain some sort of traffic.

I really doubt it.

My site is one year old, I converted from another script a few months and and my counter before the move was over 10k.

I know I'm not going to go through counting anyway.

I tried numerous numbers of listings in the admin panel to edit and every number I tried from 0 to the number of links phpld says has a site listed.

The Orange Pages and Cantufind are over 5 years old so we have a fair idea of how long it takes to build a directory without parsing. The script counter claiming over 12,000 links is 100% wrong for I actually went into most of your pages to look. I was actaully bored **censored****censored****censored****censored**less at the time as I was waiting on a phone call, and as I have one of the larger directories on the web that uses its own db's we keep an eye on every potential competitor. When a site hits over 10K links we look, but we need'n't worry on yours. Not a critisism so don't take it that way.

The advice I gave you John comes from very many years in the business and believe me your claim would raise eyebrows anywhere and your cred dashed in seconds. I used to show how many links I had but only to serious advertisers. My Database is my Companies business and nothing to do with anyone else. Playing 'My Dad's bigger than your Dad' is not a good thing for anyone.

I can tell you that the number of links is innacurate by going to a page like this....http://www.alldotnet.com/Arts_and_Humanities/Performing_Arts/

It says at the bottom Content visible to registered users only. When you can see there is only 7 You have to ignore the google ads (You can tell them by hovering over them and they will say 'go to'

You'll get more snipes like this from many people as you claim more for this is a mean game, (I don't mean anything) I only made the point genuinely out of boredom and now out of defending my comments. I wish you well but in this game, you have to back up your claims or other directories are going to pull you down.

Genuinely take care.

12K links is alot but very possible and realistic.

I have 8K and only 6 months old.

If you have free submissions you get like 50 submissions a day. Then it would take 480 days - 16 months to get 12K listings even if half is rejected.

I don't know what your problem is Kev, thats how many links phpld says I have and I know I had over 10k site listed before converting from another script.

I think phpld has a bug and doesn't show all listings, I posted a thread about this last week because I noticed the directory isn't showing some of the sites that are approved in the listings.

Other directories aren't going to pull me down, your the only one saying anything.
I'm simply going by what PHPLD stats say and I'm not playing the game of 'My Dad's bigger than your Dad', like you said.

Its a bit of fun and owning a directory isn't a "mean game".

Exactly, I look at Jim's directory a lot and its growing even quicker than mine.

Maybe not all directories take as long to build up as yours then, just like Jim showed ;)

Content visible to registered users only.

We've been going for over 7 years and our database when using simple html pages was well over a million so we know how large directories can be. The user claiming the 12.000 plus links is either being misled by his counter or is stupid enough to claim that they have more links than they really do. I actually happen to know the answer to that one! half the 12k put a few more links in, deduct every Google ad link that gets counted and the site has about 5-6k of links max. This is great and if the guy has recieved payment for each of these links then great!

I repeat in one of my other replies, whether it be one link or 100 thousand links, good luck to all.

I know I'm not stupid.

Obviously adsense links cant get counted..they are placed before the links.

I honestly don't care if you believe me or not...That’s what it says, that’s how many there are.
The site had free listings for about 10-11 months and it’s VERY easy to get that many links with a free directory, as most people know.

Hehe I think you will :)

I don't have free listings now, just premium.

It has cut down my work load a lot more and I'm glad I made the change :)

I have a new directory up thats free and I'm going to drive traffic between the two :)

Do fellow phpLD partners link to each other out of courtesy, or do we charge one another?

Hehe I knew it would happen very quickly at the rate it was going ;)

Congrats Jim!

I only do paid listings now :)

I wouldn't consider doing a free directory again, I think those days are well gone with so many free ones available.

I used to spend far too much time verifying submissions and didn't make much from it, I make a lot more now and it takes a LOT less time daily.

I am getting a lot of improvements done on the site lately and have quite a few more planned to make it a lot more advanced.

I'm really happy with the way my directory is going now, it is one of my favorite sites :)

That's great John.

That dir gives some nice traffic to my other sites with SEO services and I have 2 other dirs with pay-for-inclusion to bring in cash.

I must tell you that I recently realized that you are the same John from GameScript ...
