View Full Version : Install Went Well . . . . I thought = No Admin

I searched on cgi-bin and admin errors. Nothing seemed to match my problems.
I followed the Brief Install.txt that came with phpLD2.
Made directories in the temp folder and set permissions as instructed.
Went to:
{link to install removed}
Page came up fine. Entered my info. Completed install. This page displayed:
Content visible to registered users only.
Clicking on the admin link, it is not loading the login page. It just runs and never loads anything.
when I click on the "Browse Directory; link, it loads/displays this page:
Content visible to registered users only.
When I click on Submit Links | Latest Links | Tophits
It set to call .php files from my cgi-bin which are not even there. I assume the script was supposed to set those up but didn't.
Example: {demo url no longer available - removed}
From looking around the forum it appears I am the only one that has ran into this issue. At least from what I have found so far.
Help or ideas would certainly be appreciated. However, a reasonable donation to a php coder is certainly acceptable.
If PayPal is ok with you, it works for me.
Please PM me accordingly.

Sounds a lot to me like your host is Dreamhost.
There have been a lot of issues with them.
Am I right about the host?

I had this exact same issue when trying to install it for a past client. His host was Yahoo, and I think it all had something to do with the way the root directory is set up. Instead of public_html it uses htdocs, and cgi-bin is 2 directories away. Ended up moving it to new server.
You must be on dreamhost, as i ran into the same exact thing 2 days ago, upon installing the script.
When installing:
1. CHECK 'Run as CGI'
2. CHECKED extra security
After Installing: (to get into admin page
1. UNCHECK 'Run as CGI'
2. CHECKED extra security
you should be fine and see everything the way it's suppose to be.
definately a weird way of getting things to work, but do what you have to.

Thanks for all the input folks. No I'm not running on DreamHost. I'm running on www.OLM.net servers. Have been for 10 years.
Regarding anonContent visible to registered users only.I don't want to assume anything here. Are you saying there are check boxes somewhere I missed in the install . . . . OR . . . . someplace in the scripting itself I can use like a " 0 " or a " 1 " to turn on or off a feature?
Thanks for your input. Just need a little clarification. I'll go in and look around in the admin files to see if I can find what you are referring to while waiting in hopes of your reply.
Thanks again to everybody for your input.
I'm back at it and DeadIntoIt,

Ah .... ok, now I see. DreamHost has an interface that allows for those choices to be made.
I will have to figure out another way around this issue than changing hosts.
I have too much time invested into what I have customized in the foreground and background of my Article Directory Site (http://www.publisherscloninghouse.com) to think about moving it now.
Anybody else have any ideas as to how to accomplish the same thing manually that the DreamHost interface allows for, before I delete phpLD?
I thought my initial offer to pay for an operational install might spark some interest but, maybe not.

I have htdocs (although my host is **censored****censored****censored****censored**e) and its working well.
I just wanted to say i think your directory is awesome, in that it'll be a great resource for a lot of people!

I think it would be nice to see if Dreamhost could help us resolve this.
Can you ask tech support for help?

Will do.
I'm waiting for SSH (which can take up to 2 hrs)
I'm clearing everything out of this particular domain, and will then install. Go through the same probs as usual, and put in a request ticket.
They're usually pretty good with support, so lets cross our fingers.
Would you want to try this with 2.0 as well as 3.01?
:p bwahahaha (i'm trying here. give me credit)
Ok David, everything has been uploaded and configured and I have submitted a ticket in regards to having:
1. 'Server API' pre-install warning
2. if the script is run anyway, why am i not able to log into the admin section afterwards.
you know, now that i think about it, i remember installing the script on my other hosting, and i had the ability to import rss feeds, but on dreamhost, i can't seem to do the same. (was i just up late and remember being able to import rss for sites, or is it dreamhost)
Well, here is an update, and one that I personally wasn't very fond of reading.

It's a good thing I do have experience with ths stuff, which is how I figured out the work around, however, I feel sorry for the inexperienced joe schmoe who doesn't know anything because their help desk doesn't seem to want to do their job aka help!
