how do i add a counter?

Ok I know this must sound silly, but I got me self a counter, tried to add it and the table got all messed up.
I do know html but still it went all over the place.

I am using the desgin from Web Design Directory, can that be a reason?

may u talk about hit counter. Where you want to show that? may be in footer area.

First you make a html page, name can be counter.htm. then you have to add this code where you want to show counter in footer.tpl.
Content visible to registered users only.

NB: You will ad hit counter code in counter.htm
