Hi, not sure if this is the right place for this post (?)

My directory seems to be malfunctioning. I can't login to the admin panel, and it keeps sending me emails saying: SMF Database error!

"There has been a problem with the database!

This is a notice email to let you know that SMF could not connect to
the database, contact your host if this continues."

Can anyone suggest anything or actually help?? I'm not really competent at programming/MySql :(

Any help appreciated (or quotes considered).

I am not sure about login into the directory. What is the error message it gives You?

The SMF problem is the norm. I've used SMF in the past and as far as I can remember it was always like that. Just turn off reporting to SMF option.

Hi detoam,

Do you turn off SMF reporting in the hosting account?

The original error on the login page was:

Notice: SmartyValidate: [is_valid] form 'login' is not registered. in /home/content/a/d/m/adman1/html/libs/smarty/SmartyValidate.class.php on line 273

Now it just loads a blank page (!)

[thread moved] this had nothing to do with advertising...please do pay attention to what forum you are posting in thank you..

what is SMF?
mind posting a link to your site? what version is this for? is this with the default template? did you assign the database and users correctly?

Sorry I did wonder - couldn't see a help/advice category.

I didn't assign the users, the guy I bought it off must have. It was working fine, then I got a freelancer to upload a load of listings to my database and he thought the site had been 'compromised' because database fields were getting overwritten, so I changed all my passwords - then the admin panel stopped working and the SMF warning emails started (but it seems alright from the front).

I'm clueless, I guess somethings not right in the back end I just want a quote to get it fixed/sorted, but the phpld guys have been busy with other stuff. Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi, Sorry about that. www renewed(dot)biz

I didn't assign the database and user agents myself, I guess the guy I bought it off did.

It was working fine until I got a freelancer to upload some listings for me. He thought the site had been 'compromised' because fields in the dbase were being overwritten. So I changed the passwords and then the SMF error emails started (and the admin login fell-over), but it appears alright from the front-end last time I checked.

Not sure what version it is, or if it's a default template - I'm fairly new to phpld (or directories in general).

Any help appreciated/quotes invited.

Thanks,
Adrian

Hi, I posted twice and it said 'this post will be reviewed..' or something similar.

I didn't assign the dbase or users myself, I presume the guy I bought it off did. The site was working ok until I got a freelancer to upload some links for me, he said he thought it had been 'compromised' because fields were being overwritten in the dbase. So I changed my passwords and then the SMF error emails and admin login problem started. The directory still appears to be ok from the front, although I haven't tried submitting to it or anything to test if it's working.

I tried a fix I found on here for the login problem (with godaddy hosting), but that didn't have any effect.

without knowning what was done....i would suggest backing up the site and then reinstalling the version of phpLD creating a new database and user and assigning the user to the db yourself...
run through the install and see if you get any errors with a fresh install of phpLD...if you do then more than likely it is something with your server/host...who is your host?

you can then export the category and links from the original database and dump them into the new one...
if you are wanting to use the same template upload the old template files into the new phpLD and now see if you get these errors still? if so then it is a template issue...

i sure hope you didn't pay too much for a site running a free script...

Hi, thanks for the advice.

How much would you (or someone) charge me to do something like that? Just I'm not that confident with doing what you suggest, it sounds straightforward but I'm finding nothing ever is with software.

depends on what all you want done :) i will do a fresh install of the phpLD script for free...if this is the 3.x series I will however need proof of purchase of a license or license transfer from previous owner...
if you are wanting the categories and links transfered over and the same template to be used we can talk about a price in pm
