View Full Version : Integrating the Article Script with phpLD

Someone gave me what I thought was a really nice idea.
Here are the specs I have in mind:
1) Import Category Structure from phpLD into Article Script
2) Add articles using the article script
3) Use Smarty to display links and short descriptions to your articles, or maybe also display entire articles in a separate column.

Here are some of the benefits:
1) You could allow people to submit links AND articles to your site.
2) Your site would have more quality content for search engines.
3) Users would have more reason stay and read

What do you think?
Would you pay around $20-25 for this?

Let me know. I'm trying to decide if we should do this.

I would love to have something like this.I would also like to be able to RSS latest articles to the front page of the phpLD. Right now, I am manually adding articles to the site.

In other words. If you build it, I WILL buy it.

I thought that this was the initial plan from the start.

hrmmm...i guess i sometimes think way ahead of myself.

then again, i do have to realize that its 'you' guys who are working consistantly and constantly, and there just aren't enough hours in the day to work and think creatively sometimes.

Ok, I am sort of working in this direction now. I think in a couple more weeks, it should be easy to make calls to the article script database based on the category, and display info.

I would love to see newstopica integrated before article script.

I am definitely a buyer if we'll be able to integrate this with NewsTopica. Ideally, I'd like to write a post in Article Script, and then have that latest post show up on the front page of NewsTopica, maybe below the category links.

I'm working toward getting toward compatability between the two programs. I'm not sure whether is will be a few days or a few weeks, but I think we will get there.

I'm thinking we will use the xml buttons for each category on the article script. Then we will add one section to admin in phpLD called content delivery url,. Then all you do is specify the url of the feed, and the content is automatically delivered the category on phpLD.
What do you think?

Content visible to registered users only.

Will those articles via RSS then also be searchable via the searchengine? That would also be great, like Newstopica.

When will this new script be released, because I really want to buy it.

Well I purchased the article script and well it does not do what i require.

But hope is not lost, This thread and this integration is exactly what I require for my future project.

Sign me up.

Has work already began on this integration David?

If so when will a beta be available for testing?

Have you also decided how much extra it will be, is it going to be an addon on for phpld or a new script release say phpldas or something?

considering many have already payed for phpld & article script.

Thanks

Content visible to registered users only.

Oh, my bad, i thought there were 7 days in a week.
And while we're at it, let us just completely forget what the word hopefully means.

And no, i'm not trying to be an ass. It's just common sense and reading.

Love,

 The work never ends!

What if under a given category there was a box in admin to
Display additional XML source
They we enter the xml button of the category in the article script, and it is displayed on the front end.
Would that be enough?

Hi, I just had this set up for me along with the latest version of the directory and I would definitely pay for a mod that would import articles by category into the directory areas! Right now I have it set up to import articles to the main directory page only & would love it throughout! Please keep me posted when it's ready too.

As soon as NewsTopica 3 is released, we'll jump over to this.
Thanks for continuing to give feedback, as it helps me to determine priorities.

Hello
I am a new member here... but this combination script idea is fantastic and I am very interested in buying it. When do you estimate it will be completed and for sale?

Thanks

Is there any news with moving forward with Integrating the Article Script with phpLD ? I really want to make use of the script, but in it's current state it really is incomplete IMO. At the very least, article submitters need encouragement to submit an article. You return the favour by offering a direct link to their site, which the script doesnt offer. Having unique article titles in the page title is another must to.

I guess what I'm trying to get at here... is there going to be a more complete version of this script anytime soon? If not.. I have to start thinking about my next move as I want to start moving forward with this.

I've actually got this script running on another site and I want to put the last articles only on the index page - index.php, that is until the mod becomes available for categorization.

How do I do this?

It is really??

Content visible to registered users only.

well using an rss parser I did it - works good too.

What we need is an xml feed for each category to be generated for phpld
then by using the parser and having the capability to ad a php include
to the end of a category and adjust formatting this should work.

It would be better though if the parser was included in the script.

btw way if you are looking for a great free parser which is open source
check out simplepie.org - it's just one file simplepie.inc contains the whole functionality,
you need to know how to instantiate a class but not too hard once you follow the instructions
/templates.

This is what i have used for my other solution.

But then again, that would only put the article title and description below the category,
the full articles would be somewhere else, but where??

David,
I'd certainly go for this; article script and ld, together.

Content visible to registered users only.

This script is storing url of authors website and display it above the articles together with author's name. All you have to do is to change it to live link.
