:? Just installed php directory and I get this error:
Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/frplgt/public_html/link-directory/login.inc.php on line 12

line 12 in the login.inc.php is:
if (mysql_num_rows($resultset) == 1 ) {

Can anyone help me with this please????????

At firtst I though that there was a glitch loading the db tables, so I cleared the tables and reloaded. It made no difference.

:?: Also, is it just me or is this just wrong? Number two in the install instructions is posted as: #2. In the tmpl folder, use an ftp program to edit the permissions to 777 for conf.php and the tmpl, tmp, tmp/cache, tmp/compile folders. ....ect., I Cmod'd all of these folders and the conf.php file.

There is no conf.php file in the tmpl folder! Is there supposed to be one????

Read the instructions closely.

Here is what they say.

chmod include/config.php 777

then chmod the file called Temp 777

Then inside the Temp file, you have to create 3 other files

name them cache, adodb, and templates

Then chmod all of those 777 as well.

O.k. where did you get your instructions? The instructions post on:
http://www.netcreated.com/php_link_directory.php
are as follows: Are there other instructions that I am not finding???
Installation Instructions:(START)
1. Upload the Directory folder to your server (and all the files inside). You may rename the folder as you wish.
2. In the tmpl folder, use an ftp program to edit the permissions to 777 for conf.php and the tmpl, tmp, tmp/cache, tmp/compile folders. This will allow you to change the settings and email messages in the admin panel.
3. Create a database and edit conf.php to reflect your settings.
4. Use phpMyAdmin or your favorite mySQL tool to add the tables to the database found in database.sql
5. Edit tpl/index.html to fit the "look and feel" of your site.
(END)

 (REPLY)Indeed! I consider myself rather literate... maybe not the biggest book on the shelf but, I'm awake.

chmod include/config.php 777
(REPLY) It says (quote): In the tmpl folder, use an ftp program to edit the permissions to 777 for conf.php and.....etc., The point is that the conf.php file is not in the tmpl folder. I did chmod the file to 777 - So I got that.

then chmod the file called Temp 777
(REPLY)Well there are four folders that it instructs to chmod which are: tmpl, tmp, tmp/cache, tmp/compile. There is no temp file or folder.

Then inside the Temp file, you have to create 3 other files
name them cache, adodb, and templates
Then chmod all of those 777 as well.
(Reply) The instructions posted say nothing about creating any files or folders!
Do I have the wrong program or the wrong forum????
Are there other instructions that you can direct me to?

Looks like you have a different source for5 instructions than I do. Sorry, I did not mean to offend.

here is the exact copy of Install.txt that comes in the phpLD zip.

I think you should perhaps try to be a little more diplomatic in your approach. If you are literate and I have no reason to doubt you then you should have looked for the install istructions, or perhaps you have the free version that didn't have it. I'm going to ignore your attitude and post what you will find in the help file.

Hey there Kev,
Frankly sire, I thought I was being quite diplomatic with a little humor there. Sorry you've been offended here but, it is sweet of you to ignore my attitude. thanks.

I just downloaded this program last night at
http://www.netcreated.com/php_link_directory.php
Program called: PHP Link Directory 1.1 (New)
Is this the same version you have?
Even more confused is that there is nothing on this site that implies that there is a paid version. It says the program is free but you can donate if you want to or pay 25.00 if you wat to remove their copyright.
Also, there is no help file anywhere to be found in the entire program that I downloaded! I've looked through the whole thing!

Folks, I think I've just slipped into a 3rd deminsion here? Please tell me are we talking about the same program here?

It looks like "netcreated" is offering you an older outdated, and possibly changed version.

There is a newer version out that is free. version 2.0 which you can download here. http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/articlescript/phpLD_version_2.php

or you can purchase the newer 3.0 version in this thread http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2191

I strongly suggest no less than 2.0 as many revisions and changes happened.

3.0 is a very nice script, and you should consider purchasing it.

This all looks like just a simple case of confusion. You had an outdated version, and we are offering support for something newer.

That's David's other (personal) site, but you should download phpLD from this site to get current version. v1.1 is the very, very old version. Go here to download current freeware (you must still maintain phpLD linkback) version:

http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/articlescript/phpLD_version_2.php

But, I highly recommend v3.x. It costs $25.00 US, but is well worth it =)

The good news is that I'm not losing my mind.
Thanks, I'll download the newer version and give that a try.

 A sense of humour! Luvs it! I wasn't offended my servant of the realm, I recognised you were lost and was merley guiding you through the forest of confusion. I think that if you have version 1.1 or any other 1 you are miles out of date. Delete the whole folder and have a go at this script. It is well in advance of any other script of its kind out there and I would even reccomend that if you want to make a serious effort on this script then you look at going for version 3 as the enhancements are excellent, I know, I suggested some of them. :)

Take care.
