Hi guys, 1st post  I am trying to install version 2 and the install screen looks like this.....
Requirements
PHP Version >= 4.1 (4.4.2)
Server API CGI mode is likely to have problems.
GD Support (for visual confirmations) (2.0.28)
Session Save Path writable? (/tmp)
MSSQL Server Support Not available.
MySQL Support
PostgreSQL Support Not available.
./include/config.php writable?
./temp writable?
./temp/templates writable?
Does this look OK?
However when I input the settings and click the next button I get this error
An error occured while connecting to the database. Please check your database username and password.
If you require help with your database server settings, please consult your hosting company.
The database server returned the following message:
Access denied for user: 'admin@localhost' (Using password: YES)
Is this due to something that I have or haven't done? I am a total noob with PHP and you guys need to bear that in mind when responding.
I think I set the DB up in cpanel ok and CHMOD'ed the files as per instructions.
I know this is free software, but if I can get the install issues resolved I am going to purchase the V3 issue as I will be using this on a number of sites

Hi there Spree, welcome to the best script on the web. You should see version 3 of this.!
The problem your having looks like when you set up your mysql database you did add a usermame and password to it. Have a look you might find I'm right. Its often the simplest things that cause problems.

Ok, next thing I would look at is have you marked the database 'localhost' as opposed to your ip or url? I am not sure on the Server API CGI mode is likely to have problems part though.
Either way someone will come to your rescue just be patient.

Hi
I think this could be a permissions problem, I don't think my host allows chmod 777, is there a way around this?
I am pretty sure that I have got all the settings set OK as per the readme file.

I don't think it has anything to do with your host although don't quote me? You should definately be able to CHMOD 777. Contact your host and ask them to do this for you. Otherwise to be honest I'd change your host.
Kev
you also may want to recheck your host.
depending on your provider, it isn't always 'localhost'
for example, dreamhost is:
database.url
if your database's name as: abcDB
if your URl was: www dot xyz dot com
your host would be: abcDB.xyz.com

Hi,
CHMOD to 777 has been disabled as various other security features now cover this. If you CHMOD to 755 it should work the same. Failing that, let me know what you are trying to CHMOD and your test script and I'll have a look.
Regards,
Adam.
Above is the response to my query with my host, the problem is Kev that this is a reseller account and I have other sites running there, so really I could do with a fix. Is it possible to install by CHMOD 755?
spree, upgrading to 3.02 has its perks(ala generous hosting if needed). i highly recommend doing so. $25 and $10 for support forums, and it's well worth it.

Hi Anon
I am not against paying to upgrade at all, the main issue is will I be able to install it given the restrictions I have with my reseller account? also I would prefer the hosting account server to be situated in the UK, but would like to stick with the current hosting account.
that's definately understandable as far as hosting goes.
if you are unable to chmod on your acount, i think a cust. service call is going to be needed to rectify that.
having the specific error that you are getting isn't a script error at all. it's definately a db issue.
are you certain that within the 'temp' folder, you did create the: adodb, cache & templates sub folders?

I agree with anon on this case. Version 3 does have the benefit of quicker support, less bugs as most have been fixed etc. As for keeping your hosts in the UK, if this is what they offer then you really should consider a host outside of the UK. A reseller account is supposed to be better than the bog standard one and I am amzed that the block on CHMOD is in place, it tells me that perhaps the hosts worry about attacks which in my mind shouldn't be the case. Go for the freebie that is offered is my humble suggestion but hey it really is your call and as much as anon, myself or anyone else can advise we can't force you mate.
Hope all works out for you whichever path you take,
Kev

It would seem that there should be some way of configuring phpld to accept a chmod other than 777. Many hosts are now not allowing 777, and I do forsee some problems in the future.
I just left one host that stopped allowing 777, and now that I have everything moved to a new host, this one has just announced that they are going to begin disabling 777 permissions.

Whooo fixed it I think :D what I did was to add another user to the database, then used these details to continue with the install. I don't know why this fixed it but I'm now a happy bunny (a very tired one at 2am).
Thank you all for responding so quickly and I look forward to posting the rest of my problems to share with you all
that's great news spree!

When are .eu domains going into effect? ( i thought they were suppose to be already at teh start of the year)
I have an extremely lucrative domain in .eu and will be using all of David's products on it.
