Mod Title: phpLD Google PR Update Mod
Last Updated: 24th March 2008
Supported by Mod Developer: Yes
Where to Download: http://www.powerdosh.com/downloads/phpld-pr-update-tool/
Support Via This Thread or Download Site: Download Site
Compatible With: V2.10, V2.12, V3.10, V3.20, V3.30
Due to a number of emails I’ve received about the phpLD Google PR Update Mod (http://www.powerdosh.com/downloads/phpld-pr-update-tool/) being incompatible for V3.30 of phpLD, I have updated all of the code. The PR Update Mod now supports phpLDLinkDirectory V2.10, V2.12, V3.10, V3.20, V3.30.
I have also moved all of my downloads away from my personal site (http://www.jagoharry.co.uk (http://www.jagoharry.co.uk/)) to PowerDosh. Here’s a list of the new changes:
Added phpLD V3.30 support
Changed pagerank update script to use a new script that is much faster and more reliable
Updated docs to refer to my new site PowerDosh.com

Thanks for the update!
This is odd as I am and have been using v2.00 of this mod on 3.3 with absolutely no problems.

You'd need to have done some modifications to get it to work on a vanilla version of phpLD 3.3.

To be honest, I didn't modify anything, it worked as is :) Two different directories running 3.3 ... I swear!

Did you create the new directories? Or upgrade?

One was an upgrade and the other was a new install.

Hmm. Did you use the files from the upgrade for the new install?
Basically I can't see how a fresh install would work with my mod without any modification. There's an inherent difference of where the admin templates are stored between V3.30 and older V3 versions.

If we can get a couple of people reporting success using this tool, I will post this on the homepage of the site as well.

This Mod ROCKS! And its GREAT! and cool and sweet and fast and..............
i contacted him a few days ago about v3 and got it and have been using it for a few days and i'd say 100000000000 starts out of 10 hehehe
Works Great way better then the built in and its way way way faster, i did like 500 links in just a few sec...
i did have 1 glitch after i installed it and tested some resion that me and LittleEarner as of last time we talked know why it did was displaying all pr 10 for all links, i waited like an hr or two and tryed again and bam worked fine so i dono why it did that.
Side from that this mod is great.... Did i say that already?? ;)

Installed the mod, looks great but updated all of the links to PR 10? I would like to fix this as this mod is an excellent addition to phpLD. Any ideas would be great.

We're sorry...
... but your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware application. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now.
We'll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, if you suspect that your computer or network has been infected, you might want to run a virus checker (http://www.download.com/Antivirus/3150-2239-0.html) or spyware remover (http://www.download.com/sort/3150-8022-0-1-4.html) to make sure that your systems are free of viruses and other spurious software.
We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we'll see you again on Google.

Ok, it appears that Google has killed some shared hosting servers from that request. I was unable to get the Page Rank tool to function in a shared enviroment (GoDaddy) but once moved to my dedicated server works perfect.
Maybe add a check to return "N/A" or "0" if server does not respond to the query. In this instance when the server was not responding to the query it was returning "10px" and the result of the PageRank 10 for all listings.
If I get some time I will see if I can get something rolling with this, but in the meantime so you know..... Excellent MOD!
Regards,
Jason

should check if the server is running php as a cgi and then upload a php.ini with allow url open set to on.

No I didnt delte I took a go at it a littl yesterday and am trying to decide if it is indeed a gogole block (high possiblility depending on the other users on the server and requests from there I even get mine blocked at times) or if is is a checksum problem.
You get the 403 if you echo out the return.

I have a dedicated ip on which I host only my sites... so basically It's just me on the "server" :)
Do you link https:// ... ? because godaddy uses a proxy for https connections.
James
07-21-2008, 06:46 PM
I tried using the curl proxy that they used with no luck.
I will try so more things as time permits.

I am Having the same issue with the PR Mod. something about the shared hosting makes sense to me. i have disabled the PR function for now. waiting for someone to come up with a solution. hopefully it will be soon...
James

Not dependant on shared hosting exactly. However it all depends on server and php configuration AND the possibility of other accounts doing auto inquiry to google that is resulting in temp bans on ip. I have another script with translation that gets blocked every so often and I have to wait a day or so.

So godaddy users need to take a deep breath and relocate their directory?

I modified the dir_prupdate.php
At the beginning of the file:
require_once 'init.php';
$version = CURRENT_VERSION;
$version = preg_replace('/\.(\d+) RC(.*)$/', '', $version);
if ($version < "3.3.0") { define('ADMIN_TEMPLATE', 'admin'); }
if (empty ($_REQUEST['submit']) && !empty ($_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'])) {
$_SESSION['return'] = $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'];
}
At the end:
$tpl->assign('link_needupdate', $db->GetOne("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM {$tables['link']['name']} WHERE PR_UPDATED = 2"));
$tpl->assign('link_total', $db->GetOne("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM {$tables['link']['name']}"));
$content = $tpl->fetch(ADMIN_TEMPLATE . '/dir_prupdate.tpl');
$tpl->assign('content', $content);
echo $tpl->fetch(ADMIN_TEMPLATE . '/main.tpl');
?>
Now it works with all admin templates.

I'm using this mod on both the sites in my sig. They are on different dedicated servers. In both cases if I try to update over 1500 links a day I get the PR10. So just hold it to under 1000 per day per IP and you should have no problem. I don't. Great Mod! :)
I would guess that with shared hosting somebody has already used up your IP's daily quota.

OK, so I have a directory hosted with Dreamhost, I went through and did an update and suffer from the PR10 issue. Is there a fix for it or not? Also, is there a way to only update active links?

I'm looking to add a second option before updating (Updating by PR).
I modified "dir_prupdate.tpl" with this:
Update
<select name="links">
<option VALUE="1">1</option>
<option VALUE="10">10</option>
<option VALUE="25">25</option>
<option VALUE="50">50</option>
<option VALUE="100">100</option>
<option VALUE="250">250</option>
<option VALUE="500">500</option>
<option VALUE="1000">1000</option>
<option VALUE="0">All</option>
</select>
links at a time<br/><br/>
Update
<select name="pr">
<option VALUE="-1">N/A</option>
<option VALUE="0">0</option>
<option VALUE="1">1</option>
<option VALUE="2">2</option>
<option VALUE="3">3</option>
<option VALUE="4">4</option>
<option VALUE="5">5</option>
<option VALUE="6">6</option>
<option VALUE="7">7</option>
<option VALUE="8">8</option>
<option VALUE="9">9</option>
<option VALUE="10">10</option>
<option VALUE="11">ALL</option>
</select>
Pagerank<br/><br/>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Update Page Rank" class="btn"/>
Could someone help me to modify the "dir_prupdate.php" and "dir_prupdate_status.php" (admin folder) to run this new option?
Thanks for your help.

I know why it will not likely work properly (or at all) on GoDaddy.
It seems that there are certain Linux kernels that cause bit shift errors in PHP. It's kind of a rare issue so it really sucks that GoDaddy happens to have that configuration. These bit shift operations might be able to be replaced with basic math equations. I'll look into it at some point and if I find an alternative, I'll post it.
Before I switched to phpLD, I used to run the PR script on another server and just return the value. I might make that change here as well since I'm running my directory on a GoDaddy shared plan.

Have we got an easier way to get round the PR10 problem? I have over 10,000 links that need updated and don't fancy doing them 100 at a time ;)
James
09-11-2008, 06:53 PM
If it works in batches of 100 then that is what you will be doing. The problem is godaddy is getting highly restrictive on the requests.

is it easy to change the "dir_prupdate.tpl" to be used in the horizontalAdmin instead?
I actually put it in there cause I am using that template, and its working great. It just looks stupid =)
and PS. how often is PR-updates really being made? Not withing this MOD I meen. I am talking about "google itself"
