I am new to phpLD and am trying to learn how everything works. I installed the free v2 on my site and got it working ok. I then purchased v3.3 and installed that also following the instructions. All is working fine and now I have two directories running on my site. This is because the instructions said I should install v2 in a subfolder (I called mine directory2) and then the instructions for v3.3. said to install into a different subfolder (I called mine directory3).

So right now I have two directories:
one is running at www.domain.com/directory2/
and one is running at www.domain.com/directory3/

Am I supposed to get rid of the directory2 directory, folder, and database?

Is it preferred to install the directory in a subfolder as opposed to the root directory?

Is there a way to present the directory categories on the websites home page www.domain.com/index.php as opposed to just on the directory homepage www.domain.com/directory3/index.php? If so, how do I do this?

Would I have to install the directory files in the root and then modify the template files to create the design I want? Or is there a way to include the the directory on pages outside of the directory subfolder?

Also, how do I install a mod? I am familiar with Wordpress. Is it anything like that?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

What kind of site is on your main URL?

And as far as version 2 or 3.3, you can install in the root as a main site or as a sub like you have it.

I am a bit confused here but I wouldn't have 2 directories running in subs on the same URL unless they are Completely Different Niches! My opinion anyways..

As far as templates and mods..

You will have to do some researching here in the forum and a good suggegtion would be to pay the 10.00 to gain access to the Supporters Forum section here. It would be very valuable to you to find mods and support.

If all else fails, there are many of us here, including me that would be more than happy to help you get what you need as far as mods or a custom look, for a small fee of course. PM me if you need anything!

I hope that helps! :)

With mods, it really depends on the complexity of the mod itself, as they come in all sorts of types, sizes and flavours.

Generally speaking, most supported mods have very good instructions and if you can read and follow instructions carefully, you should not encounter and problems. Some mods just require and upload of 1 or 2 files, while others require 30 or so minutes of editing files.

I 100% agree that the supporters forum is highly recommended. Not only will you get a wealth of free information and advice, many mods are only released there and cannot be found anywhere else. Also, many of these are free to supporters forum members.

Whether you install 3.3 in a sub folder or in the root is entirely up to you. If the directory is the main focus of the site, then the root would normally be preferred. I do know some people that never install anything in the root and just various methods to redirect to the relevent folder index. Not really sure why, but everyone has their own preferences. However, redirecting 'might' cause some functionality problems with the directory. Never tried it, so I might be wrong.
