RC4 is finally available!
Please Note: There are still a few bugs in RC4. Actually, some are already solved here in the forums, but if you prefer something more stable, please use RC3, which is quite stable.
Upgrading:
If you are upgrading make a backup of your existing copy and then overwrite the existing installation with the new version. After that you MUST run the installer in order to upgrade your database. Nothing will be lost/overwritten. It will just alter the structure of the existing tables and create new ones. Also you can keep your old include/config.php file so you don't loose the database connection settings either. If you don't keep it just enter the same connection settings in the installer. You don't have to create a new admin user. Just leave all the fields empty on the admin user creation page and click next.
New features
The most notable new feature is the support for paid links using PayPal. It is very flexible and offers a lot of options fully configurable in admin. Depending on your settings the users will be able to choose the following types of links when payments are enabled:
- Normal paid link (reciprocal not required)
- Featured link
- Normal link with reciprocal (could have a different price)
- Free link with nofollow attribute
Every link type can have a different price or be set as free (only featured links cannot be free)
You can choose to activate paid links automatically when the payment is confirmed (through IPN)
Featured links. Links marked as featured are displayed in the directory above normal links. Users can submit a featured link only if the payment module is activated, otherwise a link can only be set as featured from admin
Latest links and Top hits pages (self explainatory)
Email notifications for administrators and link submitters. Notifications that can be turned on/off are sent when a link is submitted/approved/rejected or when a payment is confirmed.
For link submitters the email messages are configured using templates you set your own. You can use virtually any field from the link table (I'll post latter more info on this). For admin notifications the preferences can be set on the Profile page.
The reciprocal check method has been improved to insure that every submitted link has it's own unique reciprocal link.
Import RSS feed (the mod is now part of the official distribution)
Fixes:
RSS feed special characters bug;
fixed missing td tags when there was only one categories column;
fixed max length for several fields;
small bug fix that affects installations using php prior to 4.0.6;
fixed sorting when URL rewrite is disabled;
some other fixes that I don't remember now...
Enjoy! :wink:
