Local directory and google maps?

Hey guys and girls. I'm thinking about starting a project. A local directory of hot spots. This is my question, I've read a lot about adding google maps into the site but I've never seen it done well. Does anyone have a directory out there that utilizes google maps?

I think perhaps you mean adding directory links as clickable hot spots to the Google maps themselves?! GateUK doesn't do that, but I did play with the idea when I first built the site. I actually found it was a huge amount of work making sure the hotspots were in the right place on the maps. The Geo targetting of a lot of addresses is not very accurate, so I found I had to do it manually.... An impossible task if you get a lot of submissions.

I gave up on the idea and instead opted for a flash map on the front of my site for certain submission types only. All my listings do feature basic google maps however.
