Adding Categories

Most of you will probably laugh at this, but searched the forums and couldn't find anything. I have added categories. But when I click on the link in the borwser, the page is not found. What did I miss or do wrong?

Sounds like an issue with mod rewrite:
1) Check to make sure your htaccess file is instact
2) Ask your host about mod rewrite
3) search forums for rewrite base (occasionally works for some hosts)

Not familiar with the htaccess file. What does that do and where is it located? Also what is the rewrite base? Sorry about these questions, but these are new to me.

Ipower web does support mod rewrite, so I should be good on that end.

I do not have it working. With the URL rewrite turned on, I can submit a listing. But when I get in the directory and click on a category, it says the page cannot be found. When the URL rewrite is off, the listing submitted does not show up, but I can click a category in the directory and the page comes up. I'm not sure what is going on.

I found the problem. In my root directory, the .htaccess file was name .htaccess.old. I removed the old and it seems to work fine. Does anyone know how the .old extension got on there?
