View Full Version : [MOD] Allow video embed in details page
James
07-01-2008, 05:57 AM
This allows submitters to submit a video to be seen on their details page.
It is not a file upload and at this time only supports a few video hosting providers.
Adding providers is easily done.
Read the README.txt
As always make a backup first.
This could be very useful for business listings or just for fun embeds.
No bandwidth and file space usage for you and makes use of an encourages the viral video craze.
Supporters only mod at this time. Now Released to Everyone.
No distribution or code posting allowed outside of this thread.
UPdated due to missed adding the run the installer to the instructions.
** Now you can add the video in admin ** added on request.
Get it here:

Great mod. This could be a great way to make a phpLD a sort of YouTube video review site.

I installed the mod, but it doesn't display the video in the detail page. It just says that there is no video.
Any help. Thanks

I assume you ran the installer after making all file edits and used the right details.
url please
Probably will need ftp and admin access.
I will be heading off to sleep so will look at it when I wake up.

Thanks for the help in making this mod work with my directory and being able to add videos by using the administration area.
So far is working good!!!
If someone would like to install this mod; the instructions and files to modify are not complicated at all compared to other mods I have seen.

Got it going at the Model Railroad Directory:
Detail Page: http://www.modelrailroaddirectory.net/information/model-railroad-trains/model-train-manufacturers/lionel-trains.html
Submit Page: http://www.modelrailroaddirectory.net/submit.php
I added Metacafe and Revver as well.
Nice one, James, I like it :)
PS: Happy 4th!
James,...
This would be a Great Mod for the Type of site that is currently being designed for my site especially since my site is focused more towards products instead of main website links.
What do you think? [bt]
Is it worth testing it on it?

I have a "simple" question:
How do you run the installer?
I tried to install this mod on another site and I could not make it work. I guess my problem is with last step when we have to run the installer (I get a blank page).
Can you please be more specific on how to do this? Thanks
James

make sure in your install folder that the index is there.
If not reuplod the install folder from your original phpld download and run it.

Works fine at Proclaim Directory.
Now all we need is a "Latest Link with Video" box on the main page. :)
Thanks!

I even did a reinstall and just can't get it working. All the files seem to be edited & uploaded correctly.
One thing I notice is that the video info is lost after submission. What would cause this?
And 1 video I submitted weeks ago is still in place & working.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

James,
Great mod. Does this work in 3.3? Thanks, rg
James
12-02-2008, 06:13 PM
It is for 3.3 :)
James

Read the instructions fully
if default install then just upload the files
IF not then copy over the edit code it is all makred
// embed video
new code
// end embed video
in php page
and in the tpl
{* begin video embed *}
{* end video embed *}
Next time you may want to bump or ask again before running off to complain about something that is FREE.
This is why I rarely release things even though I have tons of mods done.

Hi Jame,
I have 2 questions for you.
If I am doing a new full installation, should i simply replace the original files with your files? I'll be using professional Template. Would this make it it easier than running the mod installation etc. (i am not so good at coding)
Is there a way for a user to submit multiple videos to play on his detail page?
Thanks,
James

IF NEW then yes upload and go run the installer of course
no multiple yet but can be adapted for it

Hi, I almost have it working, but require some guidance...
The video embed is installed on PLD 3.3, works fine from admin, submit is ok, but on the details page the player is hidden but the window is there... In comparison to an website image that can't find the pic file.
It's been tested on IE, Mozilla from different computers and no luck. I have fully installed x 2.
Any help would be great,
Dan

and you have it declared in the detail.php ?

Yes, I copied all the files over and re-installed. I double checked the codes to make sure they were there. detail.php looks ok.

I'm trying to add Metacafe, Truveo & Revver, I've added them to the submit page:
Content visible to registered users only.
And I added the same code to dir_links_edit.tpl and dir_review_links_edit.tpl.
1) Am I able to embed videos using these hosts?
2) Does this code need to be changed in any way & is there anything else (other files) that needs to be edited to accept videos from these new hosts?
3) What other hosts could be added - I'm having trouble finding info about which hosts allow you to embed & which dont.
Thanks in advance for your help guys!

need to edit the smarty file also :)
look at it from the download and you will see it is easy to add to
gallag6895

I don't know how I missed that smarty file.
It seems that each provider has a different format, I'm having trouble finding the embed code format for each. James, do you have (or does anyone have) existing embed code for these additional providers? I will be adding tons of videos from various providers and would prefer to embed video rather than simply link to their site.
Please let me know what you think.
Thanks!

Thanks!

this mod must hard to install is there any related easy mod?
gallag6895
02-28-2009, 04:32 PM
It already comes preloaded with YouTube, AOL-uncutvideo, DailyMotion, ClipShack. If you want to add any additional, you need to get the embed code from each host.
It is however tricky for users to select the needed video "ID". It would be nice if they could enter entire video URL.:D
