phpLD with link bidding?

I can't seem to find much information on this. What exactly is phpLD with link bidding? Is it like with google adwords? People bid a different amount to be above or below there competition in terms of directory placement?

This is the primary feature of bidding. It uses dollar amounts to determine placement. Most people don't use the bidding version. They use the normal version of phpLD v3.
